Moving in October to Port Moody. Calabria Bakery is moving in mid-October to Calabria Bakery located in Port Moody, 2617 Murray St, V3H 1X1. Dialing formats: +1-604-939-1335, 2 blooks north of St. John, at Moody (Murray Street Bridge)
Disappointing. I grew up eating their bread, which is pretty good. Recently, after moving to the neighbourhood, I’ve started trying out their desserts. The rum balls were okay. I then bought some St. Honore slices, Grand Marnier pyramids and sfogliatelles for a dinner party. I wouldn’t buy these again, as they were a disappointment. The icing for the St Honore was not buttery, more like flavourless shortening. The pyramids had a weird off flavour that did not resemble Grand Marnier. The pastry in the sfogliatelle was hard and chewy, not very fresh or flaky. Considering I spent $30, this was a big letdown. Don’t be misguided by vague positive past reviews. I’ve tried their pastries and can’t recommend them.
Italy? Yes. Hands down I have sampled 80% of all the baked goods at the bakery and keep coming back. I have yet to be dissapointed. Daily I slice one of their fresh loaves, grill and eat….Just repeat. you can even skip the grilling part thats just personal..Ciao, Food Snob
Best St.Honore in the city. If you need a cake for a special occasion, give this a try. I’ve ordered it from every Italian bakery in the lower mainland and this one is by far the best. Try the cream horns as well! You won’t be disappointed.
Go for the puff!!. Tried a few pastries and baked sweets. most were average-alright. coconut macaroon is pretty huge and dense. most impressed by the hazelnut puff. wish the puff wasn’t chocolate covered so i can just indulge in all the delicate smooth hazelnut cream inside!!
Good cookies!. You expect good Italian pastries on Commercial. This is sorta on that thoroughfare, way up past 33rd Ave. where The Drive turns into Victoria. It’s a little island of Italian-ity in an Asian neighbourhood. I bought a mixed lot of their Italian cookies today and I’m impressed a their flavour and lightness. They’d be good thing to take to parties, holiday celebrations or just to have with espresso. It’s way across town from me, but I’ll be back to try more things.
