Delicious, Cheap, Open Late–What More Could You Ask For?. In a city overrun with ultra-hip eateries and bland corporate chain restaurants, Big Johnny’s is a breath of fresh air. It’s a classic pizza joint: unpretentious and unpolished. And its owner, Johnny, is your stereotypical pizza guy: a friendly, greasy, rotund fellow who makes some of the best pizza in town (he puts Fahti’s to shame). Plus, it’s cheap and open late (until 4am some night’s). Get a slice from Johnny’s and support an old-school mom and pop business that makes honest food at affordable prices–the way it used to be, before Vancouver became a theme park for affluent narcissists.

Very Disappointing. I ordered a large pizza for delivery from Big Johnny’s last night. I had ordered from them before when living in Kitsilano, but this was my first time ordering to a downtown address.When placing the order, I was quoted a 45-minute delivery time. OK, no problem. However, after an hour and a quarter, when it still hadn’t shown up, I called back and was told the delivery driver had just left and would arrive within 5 minutes. 20 minutes later, he arrived, and knowing it wasn’t the driver’s fault, I asked him to pass on my disappointment with the timing to whoever was in charge.After tasting the pizza, it was barely lukewarm. It had obviously been sitting around for most of the time I had been waiting for it. When I tried calling to complain, twice, no one answered the phone either time. Although their pizza is good, their customer service is very disappointing, especially given that their prices are noticeably higher than more mainstream chains. Although you may have a better experience if you live closer to their location, I wouldn’t order from delivery from downtown again.TL; DR: Tasty pizza. Poor estimate of delivery time. Arrived cold, no response to complaint.
