I’ve been to their Metrotown location as well as their Broadway. The flavours of cupcakes differ a bit between the locations, and their Broadway place also has some other stuff like cake pops and cookies. During my latest visit, I’ve tried some of their holiday flavours, Rudolf and Candy Cane, as well as their Simply Mint from their regular menu (details below). I enjoyed all of their cupcake: the cakes themselves were sufficiently soft and moist, and the frostings creamy, smooth and flavourful. Nothing was remarkable however, and I do find the price to be a tad high. All in all, this is a decent place to visit for those who like cupcakes. Rudolf Cupcake ($3.50):3.5/5This consisted of chocolate and vanilla marble cake, with chocolate and vanilla frosting, and was topped with a pretzel and a piece of chocolate dyed red for the famous red nose. Unfortunately, I had an accident and dropped the box containing the cupcake while on my way home, thus completely ruining its appearance. Fortunately, the fall did not affect the flavour. The cake was quite moist and soft, albeit not too flavourful on its own, and the frosting was quite smooth and creamy. I was personally very happy by the generous amount of frosting topping the cupcake (there are people who might think it’s too much or too sweet, but I have a high sugar tolerance and will happy eat frosting right out of a jar).Candy Cane ($3.50):3/5Vanilla and peppermint marble cake with white peppermint buttercream. The cake was a tad bit drier and tougher than the one from my previous visit, but was still sufficiently soft. It had a good, cool flavour from the mint. I found the buttercream to be a bit too hard and stiff this time around, and a tad greasy. While I don’t care for candy canes on their own, the pieces of crushed candy cane in the butter cream, which lent both a nice refreshing taste and a great bit of crunch. Simply Mint ($3.50):3.5/5Chocolate cake with mint buttercream. The chocolate cake here was considerably more moist than that of the Candy Cane cupcake, but a tad weak in cocoa flavour. The generous amount of buttercream that topped the cake was also much softer and creamier, albeit still a tad greasy. It had a good amount of cool peppermint flavour and paired quite well with the slightly bitter chocolate cake.
These cupcakes have been featured on the food network and I’ve watched the cupcake series. It is pretty amusing. I’ve always enjoyed their iconic cupcakes and once in a while I like to treat myself or friends and family to some. Today I got a half dozen. All of them are good. While pigging out on the cookies and cream I noticed a round green sticker/card board. To my surprise it was actually a random coupon for a free cupcake at this location only! NICE LOL! There’s my wow factor! It’s nice to win something like this once in a while especially when you spend alot. Thank you cupcakes! See you tomorrow LOL!
Save Your Money. I have been a fan of these cupcakes until I purchased them here. They must have been 3 days old and we had to throw them away they were that bad. They should be ashamed to see old cupcakes like they were new.
Never Going Back!. This place is way overrated and the cupcakes are a bit on the dry side. I am definitely not planning on going back here ever again!
This place has gone downhill over the last few years. The cupcakes keep increasing in price but the cupcake quality is gotten worse. Very disappointed. The staff are rude and totally unfriendly. I bought a groupon and I was treated like a second class citizen when I redeemed it. Don’t sell the groupon if you don’t want to honor it!!!! Cupcakes are much smaller and quality is dry and icing isn’t very good. They use to be very moist at one time but not anymore. I won’t be back! I can’t believe they are opening so many stores. I hope people don’t get fooled by the pink box cause the cupcakes are lousy.
I tried the kits location, I was extremely disapointed in the red velvet cupcake. The creamcheese icing tastes like sugar icing, the cake was dry and crumbly ): Red velvet cake is supposed to be moist and the icing not to sweet, just sweet enough to balance the cake, try the one at IGA. It’s better then any really expensive cake/cupcake place! (:
Sugary, but not bad.. A Groupon came out where you could get a half-dozen for nine bucks, and I decided to take the plunge. They’re in a pre-made box, so you can just go in and get them. The cupcakes themselves were pretty moist, with the chocolate ones being moreso versus the others. My main criticism is that the icing was pretty sweet, where on some you really just tasted sugar (but not all of them). I might get these at regular price from time to time, though I have to caution against getting the really big ones – unless you want the sugar rush afterwards.
