  Amazing. Fantastic music, themed perfectly – the best Tom ka soup I have had in nearly two decades; the decor brought me into the perfect place to relax and enjoy the exquisite cuisine. This place is reasonably priced, has wonderful staff, and the best atmosphere. All the stars. Go here yesterday!

  I’m from out of town so I don’t go to East Is East as much as I wish I could. A few years ago, I went to the Kitsilano location and I fell in love with the place! Incredible ambiance, lovely decor, tasty food, and great service! I was greeted with a hot sample of chai and the waitresses were helpful with the menu and a pleasure to be around. I have never been to a restaurant with such a happy team of staff – all the waitresses seemed so happy to be working there! The service, on top of the tasty chai and yummy tasting menu, really made for an incredible experience. I was back in town a few weeks ago to visit some family, so I just had to go back and have a cup of their almond chai! However, this time my experience wasn’t so positive. It seems they changed their staff, as none of the servers I dealt with were very friendly nor were they helpful. The service lacked attention to detail – I went the entire meal without anyone refilling my water, and when I told the waitress I was vegan, she brought me a feast platter with a side of yoghurt! The only positive of my experience was the incredible chai – that hadn’t changed! I’m not sure if I’ll be back. Maybe for a chai to-go. That experience just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Not sure what happened to the place but it used to be so enchanting and upbeat, nowadays it seems a bit tired. Although the chai is unrivalled and the food tasty, East is East Kitsilano is in desperate need of improvement in the service team.

  Great food, love the flavors but couldn’t enjoy my food due to lost of appetite… Our server was wearing a short dress and decided to wear nothing underneath, complete turn off while eating. For a place that has such a unique experience and great food I would expect a little more professionalism from the servers.

  East is east where should i start, hmmmm went here a couple times both were for the all you can eat food, but at the same time, i find the food over here is overpowered me with spices. hmmmm both in a good way and a bad way. like all the dishes taste good at first, then afterward, they tasted quite similar, maybe i’m just not used to the spices therefore i’m not able to tell the difference after eating a few dozen plates…the ambiance is slightly different from other places, a little bit with a feeling that it’s in a different place outside of vancouver. the wooden feel and decoration is a nice touch.Other than that the food is pretty good, the meat is cooked nicely, juicy and tender and the veggies are definitely fresh, and everything else is good i just tend to eat something that’s more plain, therefore usually by the end of the night, i’m the one who’s finishing all the plates that are unfinished by my friends. mangkr.wordpress.com
