Servers don’t respond appropriately. Very nice looking restaurant, even had live music on a friday night which is a very nice touch in Vancouver. menu is inviting and reasonably priced. we brought the kids and they had lots of good options. But the server heard me and wrote it down that i was allergic to zucchini. And when my lamb arrived, the plate had roasted zucchini on it. i complained and they whisked it away. they made me a new one, but instead of substituting the vegetable for another one, (which most restaurants would do), they just eliminated the vegetable from my entre and instead filled up 3/4 of my plate with potatoes. So i had a plate of lamb and potatoes. they tasted good but it wasn’t appetizing to receive such a huge portion of carbs and no vegetable substitution, particularly since they had ample warning and had made a mistake in the kitchen. When my husband left the cash bill , we expected to receive back the change and then we could leave the appropriate tip. The server just took the whole cash bill and never appeared again. he assumed he was receiving a 25% tip. I don’t think servers in vancouver should assume a 25% tip particularly after they made a serious mistake on an entree. The decent thing to do is to bring back all the change and allow the customer to leave what they want. We had to ask for the change back and they complied but with some surprise. It is nice to support neighbourhood non chain restaurants and the ambiance is nice. But we will not be returning.
Great, real Italian style food with real Italian atmosphere. I went with our Italian language meetup group for Sunday lunch and felt almost like I was back in Italy. Warm, friendly welcome with water arriving promptly. Little surprises like freshly made bread with hot peppers or olive oil or sliced strawberries with balsamic glaze. Both waiters spoke native Italian, were lively and fun and gave excellent, attentive service. Everyone enjoyed their food like spaghetti alla carbonara or grilled chicken with mushroom sauce. Simple flavours in well prepared food like you’d find in Italy. Nice choice of Italian cocktails and wines by the glass or bottle. Down home style atmosphere in a modern, classy space. I’ll definitely go back!12 Oct, 2014Spaghetti Carbonara. Simple, tasty, classic style with olive oil, egg scrambled lightly on the pasta, genuine pancetta, freshly ground black pepper & freshly grated parmigiano. Delicious & not too heavy.
Excellent service, great food, charming Italians!. Came here with a friend Saturday night. We were seated promptly and noticed that the restaurant was quite busy- an especially large table had been sat before us and it appears to be that the kitchen was getting slammed. However, staff were extremely attentive, supplying us with plenty of bread and the manager (a delightful Italian gentleman with the most charming manner and the shiniest head I’ve ever seen) came out to offer his profuse apologies for the food delay and opened up a complimentary bottle of red wine for us (sangue de giuda, a new favourite of mine). When the food did arrive we were not disappointed in the least. Well presented with generous portions for a fairly inexpensive price. Pasta was well cooked, seafood was tender and not the least bit overdone and the sauces and herbs were just to our liking. We were offered dessert and friendly conversation but after wine and a good meal it was time to waddle home. While quite new, the decor might not be to everyone’s taste. There are modern elements (ie funky lamps and wall decal) that might be a little tacky for some. The menu and some of the language elements are also in need of a proof-reading. But for good food, a nice ambiance and excellent, attentive service I’d recommend this place. Great service makes all the difference when choosing between places with equally good food. I will definitely be keeping this place in mind for future outings and hope that they and their friendly staff are here to stay.
My husband and I love Italian food and have tried many in town but none can match the flavours of Italy …except Mama’s home cooking. Chef at Italian Garden is from Verona, several waiters are from Italy and music playing us all Italian … and not opera. Food is absolutely devine. Don’t expect Canadianized Italian food …that is stringy cheesy pasta drowned in sauces. Food here is perfect, flavours are delicate and not overwhelming. Best Italian food since Italy. Grazie!
Best Restaurant in Vancouver. I came here with my family and friends and we all loved it. The food is delicious. I could go their everyday, which I do often . The calamari is amazing and the pizza is to die for. The service is outstanding and the waitress is amusing. I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends.
2nd Chances are always the Best.. My friends and I ate here when the restaurant first opened, and I have to be honest that things seemed a little chaotic, but the food was good, and the portions large and reasonably priced. I had the Frittura and my friends shared the Salami and Cheese plate and as our main, I had the Lasagna and my friends shared a pizza. Although the wait was long, our waitress was empathetic and made sure that we enough fresh bread and wine to keep us going. My second time was on Greek Day and I was with my brother. We were impressed that in such a short time they had managed to work out the kinks. The servers were gracious and knew their stuff, the bartender made a point to visit our table and introduce himself, our food came out in a timely manner. I would certainly recommend the Frittura if you’re a seafood lover, and the Melanzane Parmigian was out of this world. My only critique is that the portions are so large I didn’t have room to try the tiramisu! I would definitely refer friends and family to this restaurant anytime!
I had dinner there recently with my girlfriend, if you’re looking for the Italian Experience then this is it. The waitress was Italian and right off the boat, she was unfriendly, her lack of English was comparable to her motor skills…clumsy and stunted. The bartender/waiter was loud and obnoxious and even know he gave us a bottle of wine for free it didn’t make up for the hour wait we had and this was compounded by the shirt Italian waitress with no English skills telling us it wasn’t her fault before she sat down at the bar and drank what looked like beer. Oh and then we both saw the bartender smoke what looked like a crack pipe and watched as thick smoke like vapors were released an he exhaled. If this is what I should expect from my trip to Italy, I’ll bypass it on my next European trip
