Boyfriend’s aunt loves the dessert from this place. She told me the owner was originally from Victoria where he opened his first shop and later came to Vancouver and opened near UBC. The guy is 106 years old now. WOW! Her favourite cake from here is the Diplomat as she always had it as a child. I personally find the cake very sweet. Throughout the cake there were layers of butter cream and sponge cake which made the perfect mix.
Terrible Service. Tried to call to speak to someone about ordering a wedding cake. For days on end, no one answered the phone and it just went to voicemail however the answering machine would cutoff after 10 seconds so you couldn’t leave a message. Called back one last time and the lady who answered was rude and seemed shocked I was calling about a wedding cake. I explained I lived out of town and couldn’t come into the store. She was totally unhelpful and told me to call back next week. I wont be recommending this bakery to anyone based on service alone.
Over the years. Over the years I have at least one family member including myself who loves diplomat cake for birthdays. Warning they are so rich you need to share with a lot of people. I only go there to pick up an occasional cake though as I have always found the service to be rather impolite. Maybe a good thing as I don’t really need to eat food that tastes good but is bad for me.
It’s an acquired taste. You’re essentially eating butter cream. I just find it’s too sweet for my liking.
Terrible customer service. I wanted information on their diplomat cake so I phoned & I got a fax machine 3 times, then busy & when they finally answered the put me on hold for over 5 minutes. The lady I spoke with was rude & short & hanged up on me before I finished asking her a question. I called right back, and they put me on hold again so I just hanged up. I will never shop there again!!!
