We came here for dinner. The place was only half full around 7pm, hence we were seated quickly. Service was a little slow but they were friendly and attentive. I tried the Una Don, or the unagi donburi. The unagi was very good with just the right amount of seasoning. The sushi rolls were also quite good, though a bit small in size. Expect the items to cost quite a bit more than other Japanese restaurants nearby.

As an apprentice sushi chef who has traveled North America I still feel this is the best sushi spot I know of. The food is always fresh and authentically Japanese unlike a lot of Vancouver`s `white washed`restaurants. The staff are always kind and knowledgeable. I still am happy to do the more than hour drive to their location just for how good their food is. The Mozuku kelp with Uni and Lobster Fusion are my favorites!

Revisit. Just went here for lunch again today, had the mini-chirashi don lunch set. I would say that despite the high (sometimes shockingly so – 4.95 for red tuna nigiri) prices and exotic selections, their sashimi fish is only adequate. At least the albacore, sockeye, hamachi, saba, ika, and ikura which I had today were only OK – decently fresh, but textures and aromas weren’t very good quality. However, they have some of the most convincing robata technique I’ve come across in the city, so I’d come back for the grilled mackerel and black cod alone. Lunch prices are also fairly reasonable.18 Sep, 2014Fabulous robata!!!. Had lunch here today, was quite surprised to find that it was the same restaurant I’d been familiar with over a decade ago in Coquitlam! Tried the sashimi lunch and the grilled saba (mackerel). We thought the sashimi was decent, but not extraordinary, partly because of its high price. However, the grilled saba set was absolutely incredible – perfectly charred, tender, juicy, and bursting with its natural oils. Fantastic technique. I would come back for the robata grilled items alone.

Excellent Full service Japanese Restaurant in Point Grey. We are Japanese food addicts and frequented Takumi Sushi years ago in their original location in North Road. Much of what we know of traditional Japanese food is due to Tadashi and Cathy. Last night was the first time we been to their new place in West 10th near UBC. It was a reunion after so many years and we were not disappointed, It’s really very high quality Food prepared with great expertise and care. We had the very best Unni and Scallops imported from Hokkaido. And, a reminder of Tadashi’s cooking expertise, we were treated to a sublime oxtail soup with clear broth. This surely must be one of the finest full service Japanese restaurant in Vancouver.

Fantastic, authentic family run restaurant. Highly recommend.. Owned and operated by Tadashi and Cathy, my wife and I were thoroughly impressed this evening on our first meal at Takumi Japanese Restaurant. We were seated by Cathy. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was exceptionally clean. Most of all the food was amazing. We especially enjoyed the Tuna Tataki and the California roll with real crab. This might just be our new go-to restaurant in West Point Grey.

Excellent Japanese food. We dined here on Saturday night with our two children and the food was great. My wife is Japanese and said it was prepared in a authentic style which she misses at most restaurants in Vancouver. We had gyoza, yakisoba, nabeyaki udon, tempura don, saba sushi, ginger pork and custard pudding which were all excellent. We definitely will come again and welcome to the neighborhood!
