I visited the Diner practically every week when I was a student. The atmosphere is friendly, the food is rich and tasty, and the quantity is well worth every cent. I loved every moment I spent there, and especially enjoyed chatting to the staff, all of whom were happy to help and chat.The lady who owns the diner is a treasure, so is her daughter, who often helps out, and her granddaughter who is perfectly adorable.As other reviews have mentioned, the staff has a sarcastic sense of humour, but that’s all it is. I’m not white, and I’ve never seen or experienced anything like racism in this place, on the contrary, I’ve felt accepted and even spoiled. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys British food, and a friendly but relaxed atmosphere.I’d recommend any of the pies, the brunch, or, my personal favourite, the Bangers and Mash. I’d also recommend the milkshakes, the owner makes them personally, and they are amazing.

I had their One-Piece Fish & Chips (with Haddock) and Traditional British Breakfast. The food was very tasty and the prices were more than reasonable. The service was also quite friendly. This is definitely a place worth checking out.One-Piece Fish & Chips, Haddock ($12.80):4/5The fish was fairly generous in size and was coated in a wonderful layer of crispy batter. I haven’t had haddock many times before; the meat I guess was kind of like cod and was quite tender and juicy. I don’t think the quality of the fish was as good as a place like Fish Counter, but it was still good and not fishy. I absolutely loved the fries, which were also very crispy on the outside, while being tender and starchy on the interior.Traditional British Breakfast ($9.95):3.5/5This came with bacon, eggs, sausage, baked beans, fried tomatoes, hashbrowns, fried bread, and toast. This was the first time that I’ve ever had fried bread and I have to say, I’ve been missing out. The bread was wonderfully crispy and absolutely soaked in oil/grease in the most wonderful, delicious way. It’s certainly not going to be for everyone, but I absolutely loved it. The bacon was tasty and the sausages were juicy with a nice bit of spice. I also enjoyed the beans, which were tender and had a nice bit of sweetness. I did find the eggs to be underseasoned and also a bit undercooked (which was my fault for not specifying how I wanted my eggs to be – I actually like my eggs overmedium/overhard). The hashbrowns were pretty disappointing for me; they were mushy and not crispy, and also quite underseasoned/bland.Summary:Food: 4/5Price: 4/5Service: 3.5/5Overall: 4/5Recommendations: Fish & Chips, Fry Bread

They make rather racist remarks (whether purposefully or not), which made my friends and I uncomfortable…the food is adequate in quality and good in quantity–you get what your money’s worth of brunch, especially with their special
A British tradition is to have a roast beef with Yorkshire pudding on Sunday. Since we don’t have carveries here The Diner is your destination for a proper English dinner. We started with a bowl of homemade mulligatawny soup. Then a good portion of roast beef, fresh vegetables and a proper four inch tall Yorkshire pudding. Then a piece of apple pie with cheese slice. For that England feel without the cost of a airfare give The Diner a try. They also serve English style black pudding with a full English Breakfast.Went back again but this time had the 6 oz sirloin steak. Done just right with a pile of fried onions and mushrooms on top. The roasted potatoes were done the English way. Nice and crispy on the outside and just perfect inside. Big pile of carrots, cauliflower, also added a Yorkshire with gravy. Still one of my favourite destination for that British meal.
Vegetables. I love a lot of the Diner food being British….but I wish they would serve some fresh veggies instead of the frozen mix they always serve, it would make all the difference and I wouldn’t mind paying a bit more for it!
How can you not love this old English diner and lovely owner? Be prepared to polish off your plate!
