It was our first time to the restaurant last week. The price menu is very expensive for a student. This is not a place for students as the cheapest item on the menu is $8.5 (instant noodle) and the rest is at least over $11. Not counting for very small appetizers or beverages etc. Students please be alert that this is not a place in terms of pricing. We ordered the instant noodles and the taste was horrible as there must be lots of msg. It was extremely salty. The menu claimed that they would cook like home but salt is definitely not frequently or not heavily used for home cooking especially when you have seniors at home. Also the waitress is extremely rude. When we asked for water, she was pointing us to go up to the front and asked us to help ourselves and almost wonder why we needed to ask her. This is a restaurant that priced like a high class or expensive restaurant and yet we have to help ourselves with water. That does not even make sense.
I love Korean food….and for me The Kitchen is one of the best places around Point Grey for my Korean grub. I really enjoy the stone pot (dolsot) bibimbap and the bulgogi especially, which is very flavorful and strong (perfect for my taste!) This time I was curious about the ramyun which I never tried at a Korean restaurant but always seen it. I got the shabu-shabu ramyun, and chose mild spice (not really a friend of the heat so much). The noodles really sucked up the soup really fast. There wasn’t really enough noodles but the soup was flavorful (don’t drink too much, very salty) and the other components were perfectly balanced. Poshness: A cross between home-made midnight instant ramen and ramen at a high-ish class place (Jinya….?) I wish there were more side dishes for the ramyun and maybe they also should have given us the side dishes at the beginning of the meal!
I really like Korean food, and this is one of my favorite places to go to for my Korean food fix. Compared to other Korean food I’ve had, this is definitely one of the better places out there. Pricing for the food is pretty reasonable, and portions are also reasonable for one person. I believe there is an extra group tax on groups above 6 people, so I prefer coming here with just a few friends or by myself.
We picked this place because it was walking distance from our friend’s place. The place is a little small, and quite popular. We ordered the BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, seafood tofu soup, and vegetarian bimbap. All of them were quite good and we cleaned up every dish, including the side dishes!
We loved the ambiance of The Kitchen. The interior was lit by natural sunlight, and cooled by the breeze outside. Free parking was also easy to find because this wasnt a busy neighbourhood.Alright, lets get to the food. As mentioned earlier, The Kitchen serves authentic, home style Korean cuisine: pork bone soup, BBQ short ribs, bibimbap, and hotpot, etc. For convenience, we ordered an appetizer and a hotpot.Regular-size yeonuh salad (salmon salad) $6It came with The Kitchen Sauce. We had no idea what it was made of, but it tasted sweet and tangy. Refreshing starter.Bulgogi-Jeongol (Bulgogi hotpot) $36For the level of spiciness, we picked mild, but the soup wasnt spicy at all ._. It was flavourful nonetheless, and a bit on the sweet side. Ingredients-wise, you get a fair share of veggies proteins. There was also vermicelli in the hotpot as well. Our hotpot was losing liquid very quickly because:The soup was boiling rapidlyThe ingredients soaked up all the soupNear the end everything tasted a bit too salty, and only then the did waitress offered to fill up our pot with more soup. >_<The hotpot came with two bowls of rice, and unlimited side dishes (youd have to take the initiative to ask for seconds). We really loved the fish cakes! It was a good alternative to the typical potatoes.
Came here for lunch and the service was appalling. My boyfriend and I walked in and the owners and waitresses just stared at us. Hello? We want a table. After randomly seating ourselves we were given tea but NO MENU. I stared at the owner and he sat there staring back at me. After a good 5 minutes, we were given a menu. In case you were wondering, we were the 2nd table there at that time. It’s no wonder people don’t come here, the quality of food is mediocre, the items are EXTREMELY overpriced for such mediocrity and the portions are tiny. To top it off, the last people who came in had their hands up for a whole 3 minutes and non of the waiters even saw them. The shop is small, how can 4 waiters miss this? The shop wasn’t even busy. They seriously need to work on their floor awareness and being more apologetic. They never smiled a single time and never greeted us. Overall, bad experience, don’t come here. If you are in the area, Hime sushi, which is next to this place, is AMAZING.
Over priced and not tasty. We had dinner two days ago. We ordered Dolsot bibimbap , Bulgogi and salmon salad. First of all salmon salad sauce was too salty and there were only four tiny pieces of salmon on the top of few vegetables. Bulgogi was too dry and meat wasn’t tender. we were disappointed after all those good reviews.
