We had lunch at this place on Family Day, the 12th Feb 2018. This is a family run restaurant and we thought it is a great day to try this place. We were six of us and we enjoyed their food. Authentic Japanese cuisine, reasonably priced and good variety of dishes.

We ordered the $30 omakase and it came with 11 pieces of sushi, miso soup and a cone sushi. Great value and great sushi. The fish was fresh and the chef was very sweet and happy to all his customers. Cute little mom and pop shop that has a lot more to offer than you’d expect.Call to reserve for a spot at the bar where you can watch the chef prepare the sushi.Full review of the omakase with photos on my blog. sincerelyloewe.com

We came for the omakase and it did not disappoint! This little place is run by a husband and wife team that truly make it feel like home. If you want the full experience, make sure to call and reserve a spot up at the sushi bar so that you can be served the set piece by piece. We did not do this and sat at a table. We ordered a chicken karaage as well that was well cooked and delicious!

I first heard about this place on instagram and saw lots of pictures of the omakase. It looked really good so we made a trek out to Port Moody for it. I called ahead of time to make a reservation because we didn’t wanna go all the way out there and for there to be no tables. When we arrived, there were just two other tables. I guess cause I made reservations, we were given seats right in front of the chef. We could see him making all the sushi, which was actually pretty cool. We didn’t even need to say we wanted the omakase. Every other table had it too, so I guess it was a given. The nigiri came piece by piece and was placed by the chef onto a plate in front of us. To be honest, half the time, I wasn’t sure what I was eating. But the fish was all so good and fresh. Some pieces were seared, others had just a stroke of sauce on it. The last item we received was the negitoro cone. The only complaint I have is that they used pink ginger instead of the yellow one. But that was really minor, considering the food was great. I would definitely come back for this.

This place is a hidden gem. I was pleasantly surprised after I was invited to try their omakase experience with a small group of friends. It was quite an authentic, Japanese experience. The atmosphere is laid-back, but not scanty. It sharply contrasts other fine-dining sushi in Metro Vancouver. The small restaurant is run by an elderly, Japanese couple. The husband prepares the sushi, while the wife serves the tables. This is a casual, family-friendly place. Don’t have unrealistic expectation of fast service from these grandpa and grandma.Their omakase experience is $22 per person and comes with 12 pieces of chef’s choice (we got 11 pieces and a scoop of matcha (green tea) ice cream). I don’t know if the chef is a retired sushi chef, or a grandpa who simply enjoys making sushi, but you can tell he put his passion into the food while he slowly and carefully prepare the sushi. The nigiri quality is superb for this price. I was surprised to find proper toro (tuna belly) sashimi that melts in your mouth at this price. Unlike many places where the fish is often served cold enough to numb your tongue. Their fish was just slightly, but not overly cold while the sushi rice is warmed just right. The nigiri also held itself together quite well when held upside down to dip the soy sauce. The cut was not impressive, but adequate outside fine-dining territory. Overall, the sushi is very traditional, without fancy knife-work, spices, or decor found in high-end sushi restaurants. Unfortunately, we did not reserve ahead of time, so the chef ran out of ebi shrimp (sub’d with a piece of tuna). That extra tuna was my only complain. The chef put extra wasabi in that one for some reason.I came out feeling guilty only paying $22 (+tip) for that meal.

I heard a lot of good things about the omakase and saw wonderful pictures on instgram. I came here on a quiet Saturday night and was very disappointed. I took a seat right at the bar and saw that the fish and seafood were left out in the open (not refrigerated or covered), and the restaurant was warmer than your average room temperature. For $22 you really can’t expect much, but I was really disappointed at the presentation and the qualify compared to what was seen on instagram. Don’t set your expectation too high, because what is seen on the internet is not always what you would expect.

We ordered omakaze (which means you let the chef decide what you will eat) and it was so good! It was all nigiri and a few aburi. The ingredients are so fresh and the chef is very nice and friendly. Bring an empty stomach, eat with your hands and you would definitely want to go again!
