Have you ever said goodbye to someone, only to realize youre both going in the same direction? Have you ever waved at someone and then immediately realized that you didnt know them? I didnt encounter such awkwardness while eating at Karahi King, but later when I sat down to write this review. It felt like coming full circle. Five years ago, I started penning reviews, and Karahi King was one of my first entries. Many others around that time have since closed. Back then, my articles were brief though honestly uninspired (which some people would claim they prefer). In the intervening years, I never once returned to Karahi King. Thats my cross to bear, or rather my overfull stomach. Quite a bit has changedthe restaurant has moved from its previous location, shifting two blocks to a spot formerly occupied by not one but two Indian restaurants. Karahi Kings reputation has also taken a dramatic upswing, which is where the aforementioned awkwardness emerges. As its probably known to many, and perhaps a few more by the end of this paragraph, Karahi King was the recent 2015 winner of the Northern Taste Challenge, where several local restaurants competed in an Iron-Chef-style contest. It had the requisite secret ingredients, oversized red clock, and a charismatic celebrity host (Bob Blumer called me a writer, and in the business, you are not a writer unless another writer says so). There were some challenging encounters, analogous to fighting owlbears in The Ghost Tower of Inverness kind of difficult, but in the end, the king waswellKingor , actually queen, if one were to be specific. The win was not just deserved; it was earned. Some of the dishes were epic, like a yogurt kebabyup, fried yogurt is apparently now a thing. The moment I sampled that, I knew there was genius at work.Ummyeah, I guess I should admit now that I was a judge. The benefits of being a food critic. So by saying the victory was earned, I speak from firsthand experience. It also means my time being a clandestine critic is regrettably fleeting. Subsequently, I was identified. Like unmistakably. Like addressing me by my first name. Was my experience not entirely reflective of the median? Perhaps. Lets be honest; I was indulged. My portions were huge, and by the end of it, the meal was comped. That was full disclosureadmittance that my meal was free. I dont believe the owners were enticing a positive review, more an indebtedness they were not required to make. If my review was the solitary positive spark, one could levy accusations of enticement, but this is most certainly not the case. The put it bluntly, Karahi King is not only the best Indian restaurant in town but also one of the best restaurants in entire city. The dcor, very often postscript with these establishments, is exquisitely ethnic. It reaches centimeters from an echelon reserved for top-end bistros. You have to squint to spot the shreds of compromise. A TV on a wall. Chairs that look pulled from of a self-help convention seminar. Im nitpicking, and thats all I got. Tables are topped by red cloth and sandwiched under flawless squares of glass. Napkins are folded fabric in empty glasses, not paper pulled from a cheap tin dispenser. Even the plates themselves are whimsical. Spotlights accentuate the shadows. This could be the first Indian restaurant Ive ever been in where I dont have to excuse its faults. Karahi King replicates all the positives of other Indian establishments without any of their mistakes. Hell, Ill even give them marks for frosting the windows in such a way that it blocks ones view of the local miscreants wandering by. For my meal, I had to start with those yoghurt kebabs, now a permanent fixture on the menu. Called Dahi-Ke-Kebab, and although the most expensive appetizer, the actual serving was closer to a full meal. The competition entry was simpler, with the new offering stuffed with spices and nuts, and flanked by two cooling dips. This was followed by the Chicken Malai Tikka (grilled chicken breast marinated in cream, cashews & Indian spices), a literal sizzling plate of heaven. I enjoy the fact that Karahi King doesnt feel the need to embellish chili powder like so many places. The owners let the many aromas of their homeland channel through. I love some heat as much as the next person, but theres a limit, especially when you can tap fenugreek, cloves and coriander. The one aspect of Indian food I appreciate is that Ive never met an Indian chef that phoned it in. Sure there are those that rely on more westernized expectations, but I dont recall every having a bad experience in an Indian restaurant, and maybe thats the perch atop I place Karahi King. Being the best Chinese restaurant in town is not much of a feather in ones cap, but the best Indian restaurant is quite bulls-eye to hit, and Karahi King has most definitely found its mark.Food: 5/5Service: 5/5Presentation: 4/5Value: 5/5Recommendation: 5/5

An early Sunday dinner. Clean and friendly restaurant. I really appreciated how the menus clearly explained each dish. Lots of flavor, nice heat. A great family dinner.

Best place to visit in BC. Being a frequent traveler from India, I always look around for the best Indian Restaurant . Being a typical North Indian I know what should be real taste of Indian food which is not very easy to get in every Indian Restaurant. I tried many Indian Restaurants in downtown Prince George and found KARAHI KING has the best Indian food with the real taste. I am visiting the restaurant since last 2 weeks almost everyday and have tried almost all major vegeterian & Non-vegeterian dishes and I believe that all dishes are consistent, tasty and with the exact ratio of spices as per my requirement from the cooks . All Restaurant Staff is so nice with their humble presence and welcomes with the great Indian hospitality. Owner’s self presence with the great hospitality also adds up the points for becoming as one of the best Indian food destination in the Town

Karahi King has the best butter chicken in Prince George! Consistently tasty, generous portions is what you can expect from this Indian restaurant. Along with genuinely friendly service and the convenience of take out or dining in. The owners opened a second location in Blackburn (in the old bonnet hill pub) and it is wonderful! They offer a Canadian/Indian fused menu, that allows you to order anything from crispy flavourful samosas to beef dip and everything in between. Including a fusion of both Indian and Western with a BUTTER CHICKEN PIZZA. This family knows all the ropes when it comes to providing great meals. I highly recommend.

I am visiting from Vancouver and staying at the Ramada across the street so decided to try Karahi King based on good reviews. The food is amazing! Better than any of the Indian restaurants I have tried in Vancouver. I have been to many different Indian restaurants all across Canada and I think this is one of the best I have ever tried. I ordered take out and the naan and goat curry were cooked to perfection. The Mango lassi was also very tasty. I highly recommend a visit here!

Just off the Hook. I’ve been to this place last week and their food was exotic esp. their Beef curry and Chilli chicken. Moreover, the staff is too co-operative and i reaqlly recommend this place. You should also try their another place called KKR Bistro and bar (6957 Giscome road)

Hidden treasure. Karahi King is where I go for Indian when I need to switch it up from Aruntha’s Ceylon Garden. KK offers a different region of South Asian cooking (Aruntha’s is technically Sri Lankan, with Singaporean specials) than any other Indian food in town with a special emphasis on breads. My favourite dish here is the coconut chicken, but I always switch up the naan I order alongside and I have yet to have one I didn’t like. A real plus at KK is the handmade masala chai which is a must-have when you go. The relocated spot, having moved from the Days Inn to a little nook across from the BC Access Centre on 5th, has great atmosphere and a really fun decor. Definitely worth a try!
