The absolute worst place to go on the mountain. Do yourself a favor and go to ANY other spot at Big White. Waited an hour just to sit, drinks were watered down, food was bland and the chicken was raw, and the staff were not friendly at all. Spend your money elsewhere.
Been trying to ‘dine’ here for seasons. In my opinion here is a personal review:Food got better sometimes, but only some of the time. If they are out ofa topping e.g. hollandaise sauce on their breakfast skillet, it is your fault for ordering it. That happens there and you pay full price. Service more bad than good but never great.If you don’t mind bussing your own table, or waiting with an empty glass it is good service.Management isn’t following through so I will be eating elsewhere
This place was the worst place on the mountain not only did we wait a half hour to get a seat as everyone walked by us like we never existed when we did get seated we were served the most horrible drinks imaginable. 20 minutes after we ordered we were told that what we ordered was no longer available leaving us no options for appys then an hour later were told that half of our main dish wasn’t available and had to substitute with other things. I will never go back to this place again I would rather eat of a dumpster behind 711.
Our Favourite Restaurant. I have been skiing at Big White for many years and the Black Diamond is our favourite. The server staff are always cheerful and helpful. The atmosphere and decor are great, but, it is the food that puts it in first place for us.This time we had the wild sockeye salmon and their chicken special for the evening. I have seafood often, and this sockeye salmon on a bed of salad was as good as I have had anywhere. Imagine, in the mountains! The chicken special was indeed special. I would rate the food at the Black Diamond with the top restaurants that we frequent in Toronto. I am not even going to get into the sticky toffee pudding that we had for dessert. Even the decaf coffee was excellent.This is simply our favourite restaurant at Big White, and in the top category for anywhere.On another note, I have noticed that most experienced reviewers have rated this restaurant very highly. There seems to be a few that rate it poorly. I suggest you look at the reviewers other reviews and you be the judge.07 Mar, 2014Excellent in Every Way. We were expecting a reasonable restraurant, and found an amazing gem. It was excellent in every way. The restraurant is newly acquired and decorated nicely. Pics on web are good representations for the ambiance. Our server, Luis, had the skill and easy style of a first class server. Every item we tried was excellent. The house salad sounds simple but was excellent for any restaurant, little lone one on a mountain. I had the West Coast Sockeye salmon on the first night and found it to be as good as any I have ever had. Imagine that. The second night I went with the Pecan Crusted Halibut, and was even more surprised to find it as good as any I have ever had. Cooked to perfection. The second night, we just had to bring some friends to the Black Diamond, and they were equally delighted. The Bourbon B.B.Q. Backribs were a particular hit.The wine list was excellent, with many BC wines, and priced reasonably. Oh yes, the sticky toffy pudding is the litmus test for my wife, and it passed with flying colours. I feel totally comfortable recommending the Black Diamond to anyone.
Very Happy :). We recently arrived in Big White and checked out the reviews, which were mixed, and I have to say the service and food were fantastic. Not sure what the other reviewers experienced but my husband had the honey glazed salmon and I had the pecan crusted halibut, and we were so impressed we stayed for dessert. We were told everything is made fresh and I chose the ginger cake and hubby chose the creme brulee and we were not disappointed…. yummy. We were so impressed we went back for breakfast! Serving sizes are huge so its back to slopes for some exercise!
Just WOW. We had a great meal at the Black Diamond, service was great and the food was fresh and promptly served. Chef Shaun has created a fabulous menu, went back for drinks and appetizers and was not disappointed. They serve THE best hot chocolate on the mountain, well worth dropping in, cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough.
I just had a bowl of Corn chowder and a Erdinger and both were great and the service was great as well. I don’t see anything wrong with this place and I think the bad reviews are either dated or unwarranted.
