Another place means Virajie’s gotta do another review! Had lunch here with a good friend of mine from work on her recommendation as it was one of her favourite pho places. And it didn’t disappoint! We had: curry chicken on rice, meatball banh mih, pork chop on rice & a full order of spring rolls. Nice big portions meant full bellies & plenty of leftovers Good food, prices with friendly service + management. Place is cash-only which is a bit of a downer. Overall, Au Petit Cafe is worth a visit & officially Virajie-approved!

This is a small but quite popular restaurant offering great homestyle Vietamese food. I’ve had the chance to sample their Curry Beef Stew with French Bread, and it was absolutely fantastic. Their prices have, unfortunately, been steadily increasing over the years, and I did find the portion to be a bit small. However, considering the quality of the food, I have to say that it is worth paying a little extra. I’d definitely recommend checking this place out. Be warned, they’re cash only, so make sure that you’ve got some bills on you!Curry Beef Stew Served with French Bread ($11.95):4.5/5The curry beef stew contained several pieces of beef and tendon, as well as a few large chunks of carrots. I honestly cannot say which I liked more, the stew or the bread. Both the meat and tendon were perfectly cooked, incredibly tender and needed very little chew. The curry broth was fragrant, mild and sweet. The bread was absolutely fantastic: warm and fresh, with a nice crispy exterior and a softy, airy interior. It was of course great for dipping into the curry broth, but it’s seriously delicious enough to enjoy on its own as well. My only critique is that I did find the curry to be a bit too one-note in its sweetness; I would have liked there to be a bit of heat. This is seriously a fantastic dish though.

Decent quality, good price. We have been going to this hole in the wall Vietnamese cafe since almost 20 years ago. Food quality hasn’t changed. I would recommend their Vietnamese sandwiches.

Best bai mi sandwiches in the city. The price is very reasonable and staff are friendly. The other food is also good, but the star is the sandwiches. They are often backed up with take out sandwich orders, so call and order ahead of time.

You’re eating wrong if you don’t order banh mi (Vietnamese subs) from here. I personally like getting the dac biet and grilled chicken ones. Their pho is also delicious too and sometimes it’s a hard choice between the two. If you come later in the day, there’s a chance that they’ve sold or of all the sandwiches.

I had the special ham sandwich (item #1). The bread was very crunchy and it wasn’t too buttery like other places. The ham was quite distinguished and flavorful…I’d like to try the other sandwiches in the future. Busy little place with great customer service!

I was very impressed when I first came to Au Petit, when I ate in. The curry chicken with French bread was hearty, the curry was filled with herbs and was very flavorful. The potatoes and chicken made for a filling meal. The bread was crusty and VERY spongy on the inside. The banh mi had a perfect ration of filling to bread. But when I ordered takeout today, the curry chicken was sort of bland and disappointing. The herby taste was gone so the curry was too sweet. But on the upside, the pho soup was really good and the noodles had a nice texture. The spring rolls were crispy and had a nice, slightly spicy filling. Deep fried rice paper works so well…Expect long line-ups if you are eating in, up to 1/2 hour. Takeout is quicker.
