my second time coming here, overall best thing to order is the curry, and food wise i think it’s okay, thai ice was good for vancouver standard, the rest are hmmm just average, and price wise i think most thai food are in the same range with indonesian/korean food here quite more pricy. so overall i think it’s okay. but still slightly overpriced for what i’m feeling good when i’m eating. but nevertheless it’s decent. mangkr.wordpress.com
We had a date night at Sawasdee tonight and sadly we had a disappointing experience. At the end of our meal my boyfriend walked over to ask the waitress for a dessert menu. She proceeded to tell my boyfriend and then yell over to me from across the dining room that the dessert would take up 25-30 mins to be made. She did not let us see the dessert menu and decide for ourselves. She insisted the dessert would take time and then walked off towards the kitchen. She was very rude and pushy to get us out of the restaurant. We could see them eyeing us and waiting for us to leave. We were in that restaurant for less than an hour. We even ordered right away and ate promptly. I felt embarrassed and upset to be practically told no I could not have dessert in front of a full restaurant. I didn’t wait for her to return but instead walked up to the till to pay. She did not apologize or feel bad for pushing paying customers out the door who simply asked to see the dessert menu.I am not sure why she is working in customer service if she cannot handle requests or interacting with people. The ambience is lacking. We sat near the door and kept hearing a steady stream of people walking in to get a table and being told they are fully booked. It killed the mood to hear people being told that repeatedly and then to be told no I could not have dessert was the icing on the cake. I would not return based on the attitudes and treatment of customers. They need to work on their ambience, treatment of customers, and learning how to turn over tables and handle volume when it comes to reservations and walk-ins.
My wife and I are regulars here. The family that runs this restaurant are friendly, hard-working, and make great food. The attentive service and quality of the food are always so consistent. We always start with the spring rolls (the filling is unlike most other rolls), and for the main, we split a curry (every flavour is amazing, we cycle through them all), pra ram tofu (she’s a vegetarian), Pad Thai with tamarind sauce, and steam rice. The portions are huge, and with leftovers, we usually have enough for dinner the next night too! We’ve also ordered a few different kind of dishes in the past, all of which were fantastic. I cannot recommend Sawasdee enough for authentic, consistent, delicious Thai food with excellent service.
Best pad thai I’ve ever had in Canada and there other food items are very good as wellWould recommend it-
Long wait so make sure to have reservations. Food was good. Disappointed that no fresh or even canned coconut juice. Ate the purple flower dumplings, pad sew, basil chicken and coconut rice. Will come back again 🙂
