We normally phone and get the order delivered. Started using the app the last few times and it was good until today when the app was down. The ordering line was also down so we called the restaurant like we used to do and were told they could not take our order. WTF!

We decided to return to this Swiss Chalet on Douglas Street after long absence. We used to be regulars here, but boy, it has changed. The place was busy, filled with seniors, but we were seated fairly promptly, but then the wait began. First, we waited several minutes for menus. Then, we waited a quarter of an hour to order. Then, we waited nearly an hour for the meals to arrive — another split second, and we were about to get up, pay for the coffees and go. Anyway, the food was not what it used to be in years gone by. We both ordered the Quarter Chicken Dinner with coffee. Coffee was hot and ‘okay,’ but our mugs were empty by the time the food arrived and there was no refill until the server came around with the bill — a little late! The chicken was what I would call ‘miniature,’ unusually small, and with maybe two full forkfuls of meat, no exaggeration. It was dry too, as though it was sitting for a while after being cooked. The fries were flaccid, oily, and room temperature. Again, I think the meal was sitting for a while. The little miniature bun on the side of the plate (why do they bother with that stupid thing?) was dry, and there wasn’t enough gravy even to wet it. In summary, portions have dwindled, service has deteriorated, and quality has suffered. This used to be a favorite place, so we’ll probably try it again at some point. I guessthe herd of seniors keepeating here out ofhabit orbecause the place still has the feel of an old-time family restaurant, or because it has very soft, comfortable booths, but it ain’t for the food.
