Friendly wait staff, good seafood, nice presentation. This was our first meal on Saltspring, but I don’t see what all the complaints are about. Compared to big city dining, we thought it was good value. Nice fried oysters, excellent Brussels sprouts appy, great mussels in a ginger sauce. Everything was fresh and tasty.
I wish we’d read the reviews before choosing to dine here. Mediocre food, over priced and a long wait for the bill made this experience overall disappointing. I ordered what read on the menu as a very nice salad with seared ahi tuna. Upon biting into it, I discovered there was no avocado, so politely asked the server if he could bring me some. He reacted promptly, but brought out a small half of a badly cut up avocado and said that it wasn’t ripe. No apologies given, even slightly annoyed at me. He was right – chewiest avocado I’ve ever had! Come on, with all the grocery stores in the area, how hard is it to stock up on the right salad ingredients?
I wish I had read the reviews before deciding on a restaurant. We saved our last night on Salt Spring as our one night eating out and we were looking for fresh and local fare. Our waitress was lovely and patient and attentive and I have no complaints about the waitstaff. The restaurant had great vibes, was clean and pleasant. The food was absolutely lacklustre. The seafood chowder had a good flavour, but was more of a corn chowder than a seafood chowder. The lamb burger was lamb, lettuce, onion and tomato on a too-big bun with a dot of mayonnaise in the middle of the bun. The lamb tasted like it had zero seasoning and overall the burger had very little flavour. The fish and chips were fish and chips. The Bombay curry was probably not the best thing to order at a seafood restaurant. The calamari was okay. The roasted brussel sprouts were undercooked. The salad with crab cakes was good. The french fries were delicious. They had a good wine menu and little to offer in terms of beer.We should have either gone to the enticing cafe next door or waited the necessary hour to get in at the seafood restaurant in Vesuvius.
The most terrible service that I ever experienced in Canada. Don’t go if you have a good mood, they will just kill it!
Terrible don’t go !!!!!. I have given this place a few tries now And it is awfulThere is a reason the locals hate this place ….When asking around town where we should eat there are not many options nobody recommended this place just the opposite and with good reason There is zero love put into the food here ….. I have heard service is bad our waiter was pleasant but my husband was very annoyed with the automatic 18 percent tip option and so left 15 percent ……It would be great if someone who gave a crap bought this place …… Food is awful
Been twice. Poor poor service. very hot day and she didn’t bring us water. everyone else she served around us had water. our drinks took a very long time to come. the wait for our food was even longer but the food was okay.
A bit on the pricey side!. Decor was welcoming, Service was great, but we found the price did not match the quality of the food or drink. We’ll try somewhere else next time.
