I’ve been here with my wife twice. The first time, we had a mixed experience. They had a well-priced wine special by-the-glass, and we started with the Insalata Verde, which was solid but nothing special. My wife and I shared the ravioli, which was quite good, and a pizza on special that had a cream sauce and squash blossoms on it. The pizza was quite bland, though the sourdough crust was good. We decided we’ve give it one more try.Our second visit there will be our last. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was the best part of the meal, but had quite the mark-up for what we got (a solid Montepulciano). We had the kohlrabi salad, which was odd – quite crunchy, underdressed, and hardly any almonds. Would have been better finely chopped and mixed in with lettuce, and with more generous amounts of dressing and almonds. For the main course, she ordered the Quatro Formaggi pizza, and I ordered the lamb rigatoni (minus the dried olives). Her pizza was made too thin in the middle, and too thick at the edges. This resulted in a pizza that was flapping and hard to eat, drowning in grease, with undercooked crust at the edges. My pasta was bland and incredibly oily. The lamb was tasteless and overcooked too, and it would not have been saved by the dried olives (which would have provided more salt, which it did not lack). We didn’t finish our meals, and didn’t pack the remaining food to-go. The bill was not cheap either (over $130 after tax and tip). While the atmosphere is great, the food is very underwhelming, and for quite the price. If you’re feeling like pasta and pizza and in the area, Novo on Burrard does not disappoint.
