This is a small casual cafe located on Granville, not far from Broadway. They have a pretty good selection of casual breakfast/lunch fair, including a variety of cakes and other baked goods. I’ve sampled several of their cake (Lemon and Cream, Carrot Cake, German Chocolate, and Red Velvet) as well as a Chocolate Tart. All of the food was tasty, with the standouts being the German Chocolate and Red Velvet cakes, and the prices are extremely reasonable. The staff was also quite friendly. I do have a minor issue with their packaging: the plastic containers they have were a bit small/low and some of the cakes did get squished a bit, but that’s just for takeaway. Otherwise, I seriously enjoyed my visit to this cafe, and I’d highly recommend checking this place out for some tasty and very affordable treats.Lemon and Cream Cake ($3.50):3.5/5This consisted of layers of cake sandwiching lemon curd and cream. Unfortunately, the cake did get a bit battered during the trip from the cafe back home. Fortunately, the taste was not effected. The cake was very tender and moist, and very tangy from the lemon. While I did find the lemon flavour to be a tad overwhelming, bordering on artificial, it was still quite enjoyable.Chocolate Tart ($3.50):3.5/5The crust was relatively tender, albeit a bit too blond and bland. The chocolate ganache was very good however: smooth without any waxiness, and a nice bittersweet flavour. I do find there to be a bit too much crust compared to filling.Carrot Cake ($3.50):3.5/5The cake was a tad on the drier side, but still tasty, and had a nice spicy flavour. It was filled with a good amount of raisins. The cream cheese was smooth and sweet: I personally would have preferred it to be a tad less sweet and a bit more tangy. This certainly isn’t the best carrot cake that I’ve had, but it is still tasty.German Chocolate Cake ($3.50):4/5This consisted of two layers of chocolate cake sandwiching some custard filling, and was topped with shredded coconuts and caramel. The cake was incredibly tender and moist, with a nice bittersweet flavour and a great fragrance of coconut and liquor.Red Velvet Cake ($3.50):4.5/5This consisted of two layers of cake sandwiching a layer of custard filling and bits of chocolate cake, and was topped with another layer of cream cheese. Once again, the cake was incredibly moist while the custard was smooth and luscious, and melted in my mouth. This is easily my favourite of all the treats that I’ve sampled.

Had a Hot Chocolate here while waiting for my appointment at the next building and my hot chocolate is too sweet. I saw the barista used a chocolate fudge then added milk. I did not enjoy it as it feels like drinking water syrup. The place is very quiet and the staff are very busy so I assumed theyre not that friendly. And I just dumped my drink after a couple of sips

There’s something lovely about an old-style cafe that is completely honest in its friendly service and basic food. A half a turkey sandwich with a bowl of mushroom bisque; both of us had the same. It was fine, not special, but on a cold wet Vancouver winter day, in nice surroundings: comforting. andyquan.com

Favourite cafe in the neighbourhood; amazing soy chai lattes. This is the perfect place to rest your feet if you visit South Granville for some shopping–welcoming atmosphere, magazines to peruse while you sip your drink, and friendly staff. Seriously, the service here is impeccable, and always with a smile. I mean, every time I go there they seem genuinely happy to see me–not only that, but they remembered me after my very first visit. It’s so nice to be treated like a regular!Their coffee & espresso prices are very good, and it’s nice that the listed prices include tax. They have delicious scones and I want to try a pain-au-chocolat because they look sooo flaky and soft; they also have homemade iced tea in the summer which is very tangy and refreshing. All that said, my favourite thing to order here is just a soy chai latte, which is the best I’ve ever had. If you’re into that sort of thing you should definitely try it!Anyway, if you’re in the area skip the Starbucks–you can find those anywhere, and Phoscao is definitely worth a try.

What a find! This beautifully decorated spot at the edge of the Granville Rise shopping district is a haven of good coffee. No latte art here, just well-made coffees, super-friendly service and a great atmosphere.
