Came here for a late lunch and was instantly uplifted from a bad experience at The Pier Bistro across the street just moments before. The fish in the 2 piece fish and chips was awesome, but the fries were a little lacking and kinda soggy. We had upgraded to parmesan truffle fries, but there was barely any parmesan. The ribs were plain in flavour but very tender. They were out of mussels so that was disappointing. Settled for the pappardelle which was just Meh.Food was in general just ok, nothing special but service was excellent and always with a smile. The layout of the restaurant is very welcoming and pretty. It’s a great atmosphere for casual eats.

I’ve been a Sidney resident for the last six months, but I’ve frequented Haro’s since it opened… As I started to prepare to plan a birthday, I called to make reservations for a party. The hostess who answered my call was friendly and sweet, and assured me a manager would call to confirm my reservation.Someone called me, I assume a manager, and was not pleasant. Tried to pressure me to do a single bill for our party because it would be too inconvenient for us to bill separately as apparently the place only has two machines… I thought a restaurant would be thrilled to be guaranteed to have the seats filled but in the end I cancelled our reservation because of how terrible my experience was just attempting to make this reservation. As a customer, you should not be made to feel like an inconvenience for wanting to bring your business to what is normally a great restaurant! I would not recommend anyone plan an event for here, and honestly I won’t return after this experience even with a small group of people.

First time dining at Haro’s, although we used to pass by this place every time we went to the Sidney harbour. We were there for the Canada Day fireworks night and went in for their late night menu. We were seated facing the window, perfect to sit in anticipation of the lights show. We ordered coconut prawns and their calamari (as I almost must order calamari from every new place I dine at). For drinks, I went for the (alcohol free) cucumber something…. I can’t remember the other half of the name but it sure was refreshing! It consisted mainly of coconut water. The coconut prawns were impressive! I was expecting small crispy prawns as I’ve seen in other venues, but these were pretty big and the coconut shaped the shrimps in a square shape. They were very delicious and had a distinct coconut taste. The calamari, however, was a tad on the salty but next time I will give them another chance. When the fireworks started we could see them through the large floor to ceiling window in front of us. The patio doors were opened and we abandoned our food to watch. It was truly a delicious and beautiful dining experience.

Big prices, small portions. I’m a local and I’ve had dinner here a couple of times. What I like is the waterfront location and the always excellent service. The Caesar salad is the best I’ve ever had. I had the Cowichan Valley Chicken Breast which was okay but small portion. People with me had the Ribs, Tuna Takiki and the salmon. The food is just okay. It’s not bad but it isn’t fabulous and the portions are small. For the steep prices we paid….I don’t think we received good value. I expected more from the high prices we paid. Their wine selection isn’t great and if they want to be perceived as a really nice restaurant they need to get rid of their tacky, faded menus; they give a very poor first impression. I would probably go again but not too often because it’s too expensive for what you get. Instead I’d go further up the street to Odyssia restaurant which is not as fancy, but is consistently good food and better value.

Beautiful atmosphere, so I was a bit surprised by how casual the menu was. We had the samosa’s to start, which were good! I had a Caesar (drink) and it was delicious! To eat I had the maple pecan chicken wrap, which wasn’t overly flavourful. Also, I asked for gravy with the fries, but they don’t have gravy there! That was a bit surprising, but they did give me garlic aioli to dip the fries in which was pretty good. My lunch partner had the burger with salad and said it was good as well. Decent restaurant overall and it does have a nice view!

Beaten by White Spot. Quite disappointed in the quality of our meals this afternoon. Lettuce wraps were basically a pile of lettuce leaves and shredded carrot on a plate with a side bowl of extremely spice meat. Basically, the cooks didn’t have to to much with this meal, but it would have been nice if the lettuce wraps were built before being brought to the table. The maple pecan chicken salad wrap was dryer than the Sahara Desert and was missing something…oh, right…the pecans. Half of the fries were uncooked and were left on the plate. Went to a coffee shop down the street for the desert portion of the meal…at least that wasn’t disappointing. You know your food needs a lot of work when White Spot beats you for quality.
