  Having seen the length of the line-up for the Surly Mermaid, we went next door to the Rumrunner restaurant in spite of our memories of uneven service and food quality issues dating from previous visits at least five years ago. We ordered two meals from the daily special menu, partly because we thought they would take less time to prepare. In fact the reverse was true. We sat and watched as a table of four who came in after us received their meal, consumed it and departed. After 45 minutes the server came by our table and said your order is next up and then a few minutes later again with its on the grill now. After a few more minutes the meals actually arrived one was salmon baked on a plank with rice and vegetables (sliced yams, sliced zucchini and purple onions). The salmon was cooked well and was tasty, most of the veggies and rice was cool or cold when served. On the plus side, the rice was properly cooked and had a nice flavour. The other dinner special was steak Oscar, crab with barnaise sauce, mashed potatoes and the same vegetables as came with the salmon. The mashed potatoes were nothing special but the steak was a disappointment the order was for medium-rare and it turned out to be rare-raw. One end of the steak was rare but edible, the other end was still blue and the fat layer barely changed. A portion was left for the server to see. She apologized, asked if we wanted some sort of compensation and said she would speak to the cook. Upon presenting the cheque she said the cook had been informed. End of story. We skipped dessert but bought something at Thrifty Foods on the way home. No complaints there. The Rumrunner has a great location, pity that the food still doesnt measure up.

  Since I visited this establishment last year and has a pleasant experience I was in the area and decided to go back. A lot had changed since my last visit this place needs a major update! Our waitress complained the whole time about having a sore thumb, food was mediocre, and did I mention the lipstick on my glass…..dont think Ill be going back.

  Went for lunch while checking out the aquarium which is literally next door. As we wanted to get back in time for the feeding, we had a time crunch which they accomodated for us. Wonderful friendly service… I had the calamari instead of an actual lunch and it was the best I ever had! Tender like you never had before. My wife had the battered fish and salad- very decorative and quite good. Very nice view as well.

  Had dinner there twice this past week and it is the first time in several years. Both meals were very good and they obviously have a new menu and chef. Both times excellent food and good service!

  One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. My cup had lipstick on it (I don’t wear lipstick) and upon showing the server she replaced my glass and provided me with the excuse that it’s hard to get lipstick off. Hard as it is it’s still disgusting. When dinner arrived my taco was good but my father ordered baron beef and the yorkshire was burnt. The only area that was not dark brown was the very center. We saw 3 people send the yorkshires back before us. So they knew there was an issue and kept serving it anyway. They offered us another bread and $2 off our meal. I will definitely not be returning.

  The staff were all really friendly. Seems to me there are a lot of regulars that frequent this pub. Our food came within a reasonable time and was average pub fare.
