Average. Was here before when it was a different restaurant but finally tried it as West Coast Grill. Went for lunch and started with the French Onion soup which was good! Had the crab mac n’ cheese which I found just way too rich. You could see the butter/oil separating from the sauce while eating it. The only flavour was a hint of crab, otherwise it wasn’t overly tasty. Definitely not worth the $18. My lunch partner had the West Coast Wrap and the clam chowder and she was very happy with her meal. I would go back, but stick to the casual food. The setting of the restaurant is beautiful of course, so that is always the bonus!

We went to The West Coast Grill for dinner. The location and views are great. I’m sure dining on the restaurant’s deck in the summer would be very enjoyable, with the beautiful views. The dinner was decent, not what I would call spectacular. My wife had the cedar wrapped salmon, while I had the 12 oz peppercorn New York steak. My wife’s salmon was well prepared, well presented but nothing outstanding flavour wise. It was good, but it didn’t stand out from most high end places that serve salmon. My steak was slightly over cooked from the medium I ordered. It had a nice flavouring from the spices that covered it. Unfortunately, the peppercorn sauce/Demi glaze was much too understated. It was so subtle, that you would not notice if it was not even present (which is exactly what I thought until I spotted one measely peppercorn hiding underneath my steak). It could use a more pronounced peppercorn taste, considering that is what it was supposed to be a peppercorn steak. The quality of the meat was good. My wife and I had the same sides with our meals. The mains came with seasonal veggies and we chose the roasted potatoes. The potatoes were sliced and roasted in spices and were average in flavour. Ok, but nothing that stood out. What did stand out was the amount of potatoes that were given with the meal. Far too much for one person. They could have filled three meal sides. When potatoes are amazing, you wish you had more. When they are average, you wonder why they put so many on your plate. Clearly overkill in this case. The veggies were spectacular. Asparagus and peppers were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crunch. Very well done! In general, the dinner was decent, and tasty, but nothing out standing, considering the price of the meals. I expected more. I would recommend this place as the views make up for the over priced and underwhelming meals.

Going Down Hill Disappointing Bland Food & Poor Service. Beautiful Hotel in a Great Location… But Don’t Eat Hear…!! its gone down hill since Ric’s Grill Left this summer, We were Very Disappointed to here this. We have dined here a few times with local & Friends from Victoria they will not come back to this Hotel Restaurant West Cost Grill, God help the hotel if this is what they think is good food…!!! We have a house close to Sooke and loved coming here, dinned her 3 times this summer and its been disappointing each time..!!? Prices are High..!! Food Quality is Very Low..!! Service has also become Poor and disappointing, I’m inbaristed to bring guests to this Restaurant. We will not Recommend or Retune to this Hotel and Restaurant, Some items we have had our past 2 visits that were Poor and Disappointing -Cedar Salmon was small & over powering cedar taste and a small Portion for $30.00 -Seafood Medley was lacking in Seafood and in flavor for $33.00…?-One Steak the Tenderloin $35 was over cooked almost Burnt..! -The N Y Steak $44 was almost Raw only cooked on one side..I dont think they have real cooks now? Vegetables have bed over cooked and Poor, potatoes have been Bland-Flat Beads Over cooked and Dry, $15…!Soup of day $9.00 Bland & Warm?? A culinary treasure hidden in Sooke. The quality of dishes my wife and I had ordered on the evening of September 29 was excellent, as was the service. The chicken wings were plump pieces cooked to juicy perfection. The meaty calamari was lightly battered and not dripping with grease. Our main entree was a seafood medley for 33 dollars but was also cooked to perfection and bursting with natural flavours. We went back for lunch the next day for beef dip and Monte Cristo sandwich with salad. The flavourful dressing on the salad was perfectly balanced. The beef dip was made with fresh baked bread and loads of tender AAA beef. The sandwich was also over the top; made with Brie cheese. We had a different waitress serving us at lunch and she was huts as attentive and friendly as the lady we had the previous night. Price is same as what one would expect to pay at any other 4 star restaurant in Vancouver, but the difference here is the extra friendly staff and the virtually 100 percent farm/ocean to table food prepared with TLC and presentation. Also, you got to try the awesome caramel coconut cheesecake with berry sauce for desert.

Disappointed with the food and the waitress. Shocked to hear it is no longer Ric’s Grill. We had a gift certificate from hotel which after a discussion was accepted. Lovely lady at the front office overheard us at the front desk and really went out of her way to talk with the restaurant manager to have it accepted. Manager was nice and accommodating, unfortunately the waitress didn’t seem to be interested in doing her job. Ordered a Caesar and it came with a straw. Had to ask if there was a garnish such as a celery stick or bean when I noticed another waitress taking out a Caesar. Our waitress told me there was a bean in my drink, I actually had to swish the drink around to show her there was nothing other than the straw. Ordered the butter chicken with angel hair pasta. Gluten free pasta was an option for an additional charge-no problem. When it arrived, it was a rotini pasta NOT angel hair, and it was absolutely dreadful. No mention of this when I ordered. I pushed it away and shared my friends filet mignon. It was wonderful. Waitress came by after about ten minutes and asked my friend how the steak was. Not one word asking about the pasta in the center of the table barely touched. Afterwards she asked when clearing the plates whether she could wrap it up…..seriously girl…..open your eyes! The hostess replenished our hot water and was lovely also. If this restaurant has a chance this waitress should read this and take responsibility for her absolute dreadful attitude. Not helping a restaurant make its mark. Will definitely not be back……lots of wonderful options out there.

Excellent!!. The food and service was wonderful! The chai tea infused halibut was excellent. I definitely would eat there again and would tell my friends about it.

Really enjoyed dining here. My husband and I spent 4 nights at this beautiful resort and dined here for most of our meals. Our favourite dish was the cedar wrapped salmon with the delicious scented rice. We shared a bowl of their daily soup for a starter and then shared the salmon. It was more than enough food , was fresh and very nicely prepared. As for pricing the meals are priced medium to high but I wouldn’t say outrageous by any means. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
