The Best Hainanese Chicken I’ve ever tried in Vancouver so far!Having heard that this restaurant has a signature dish that is one of my favourite – I have decided to give it a try.Now I have already tried twice before writing this review. They have got their Famous Boneless Hainanese Chicken, the BEST I have ever tried in Vancouver!I have made 2 separate take-out orders in 2 months. With ordering one whole chicken ($30 plus tax), you will get 5 bowls of Chicken Oil Rice with it, also with 2 kinds of dipping sauce. The texture of the chicken was tender and juicy, but not under-cooked. The taste of the meat was not salty. As for the chicken oil rice, it was not greasy, yet you could taste the fragrance of the chicken broth in the rice.I will strongly recommend this place for Hainanese Chicken.

Disappointing!! Food was average, portions were small, and WAY overpriced. **Note prices are significantly higher than the menu posted online** Eg. items that are listed as $8.95 are now $14.50. Better food elsewhere, definitely not worth the price here.

A hidden gem – if you have craving for Singaporean food from time to time like me. Their Hainanese Chicken is smooth and tender. Lasa noodles soup base is flavorful, you can tell it is shrimp/prawn based. Satay Skewer were also very tasty. Better yet, their price is very reasonable as well.

We wanted Hainanese chicken tonight and didn’t really want to go to Richmond (Prata Man, a hole in the wall on Capstan Way, is our current fave). We heard about this City 1 Cafe from my wife’s dad, so we decided to give it a try. Got here around 7:15pm tonight. It was busy – a full house with just 45 minutes to closing! We really wanted to try their chicken. We ordered their half chicken, but they only had enough for single order serving left. The regular customers in the know reserve a table and pre-order the chicken in advance…very smart. So the wife had the chicken, and I ordered the laksa. I found the chicken to be quite tasty. A respectable second place to Prata Man. But the oil rice needs improvement. There wasn’t enough oil in the rice. The laksa was missing the pungent and strong dried shrimp flavour. Maybe they were toning it down for the customers who are used to HK cafe-style laksa? Whatever the reason, that is my observation. We also ordered a plate of stir fried green beans. This dish was simple, but good.Service was alright. Servers were pleasant & efficient, but not very attentive as the restaurant was quite busy. The servers were busting it to get orders out, tables cleaned, guests seated, etc. I appreciated that they were working hard.Overall, I found this rare budget friendly Singaporean/Malaysian a good value for money. Appx $30 for two people…the Hainanese chicken is definitely worth a return visit.

Decided to pickup the chicken rice and was disappointed. The rice was so salty and they had not given me the sauce and the soup. The chicken taste seems to have went downhill.

Their Hainanese chicken is the best. They are boneless and tasty. I usually ordered 1/2 chicken or a whole chicken sometimes. You better pre-order the chicken when you make a table reservation. They sold out quickly sometimes.
