Kino Cafe is such a great neighbourhood spot. The Kino is a mainstay of Cambie Village. The comedy night on Tuesdays is always good. It is a workout room where comedians come to try new material and newbies have an opportunity to get their feet wet. The owner, Steve, is one of the nicest and supportive guys around and makes sure performers are duly compensated. Steve took over ownership when the old owners wanted to sell primarily because he wanted to keep the performances that the Kino hosts going. Flamenco nights are later in the week and are beautifully done. Do yourself a favour and check out the Kino.
New owners making the difference at the Kino. I am so happy to see new owners at the Kino. People who actually care about the musicians, the food and the community. I stopped performing or even stepping into this venue/restaurant due to the lack of care and quality that seemed to be getting worse over the years. Since late 2014 early 2015 – it is on the up swing. Catch loads of talent, dance and comedy. It can only go up from where it was.
2 thumbs up. I have been a fan of Kino for many years and have always been amazed by this hidden cultural nugget. Historically the food was always so so but people went for the ambiance (quite a collection of eclectic people) and the FLAMINCO which is awesome! The new owner has made positive changes in the menu and the prices and atmosphere will be appealing to those who value a well priced evening out. It’s survived all these years so let’s support this reasonably priced neighborhood spot that really offers something quite different from the rest of the trendy restaurants that some and go. My only pet peeves are the rude patrons who talk loudly over the music and dancers after being asked to dial it down. Come on people hold back your conversation until the performance is over and let the rest of us enjoy this truly unique experience. Sports Bars are down the street….. And, smokers, please take cigarettes well outside the door; the bylaw is 15 feet from the door. The previous owners had several fines since smokers just kept ignoring the rules. The summers were especially bad because the windows were open and many people left; the tobacco was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Going home smelling like a ashtray and waking up with a headache kind of spoils the fun for most of us who don’t want to inhale second hand toxins. Thanks for listening and see you at KIINO !! Patti
Friday nights. The music and dancing is fantastic as well as the sangria, how ever the owner is very rude almost un tasteful and the food is AWFULL. The flamenco is all that place has going for it. After the run in with the rude owner tonight I won’t be back !!!
Fantastic cultural experience. I agree with some of the other comments that this place is less about the food, more about the flamenco. The food is fine – I went with friends and we shared the hummus, a salad and a pizza as tapas, tasty enough. Pitchers of sangria grace most tables and it feels like the perfect thing to be drinking in that space.I went on a Friday evening and the flamenco was fantastic. Vancouver is so lucky to have a place like this where you can enjoy a rich cultural experience along with simple food and a nice open air restaurant.
Flamenco Fantastic. Kino’s is great for live Flamenco… that’s about it.
Tuesday Comedy Night. They have some amazing talent there on Tuesdays.
