I went for lunch in sushi aria last Monday as corner 23 was closed on Monday. It is surprised that the lunch bento is tasty but not impressive.Only a few customers were there at lunch time. The service was not attentive but it was fast and efficient. Bento is only served at lunch period. I will revisit it just because of the location.
Oh do I have things to say about you. At once considered the best place for sushi in the South Cambie area, in my opinion, Sushi Aria has fallen off that pedestal hard. Staffing changes to both service and preparation has severely hurt this establishment. Firstly, I cannot say much praise about the quality and taste of the food other than the Tonkatsu, which is really difficult to ruin, so at least they haven’t completely flopped. As for the sashimi and nigiri, increasing the prices when the fish consistently tastes less and less fresh per visit is ludicrous. Service is slow as well, as the two servers are constantly coming to take your order only a minute after you’ve sat down. One can infer this is because they know that food prep is going to take so long, that the customer would rather order something random and have it in 15 minutes of entering, rather than taking the time to choose something they’d like and having to wait a half hour. Never mind that after all of that pestering at the beginning of the experience, the servers are oblivious to the end of the service and will forget to bring your check.Taste: 2/5Quality: 1.5/5Service: 1.5/5Price: 2.5/5Total: 7.5/20 > 2/5
I tried to order 3 different things on the menu on yelp and they told me they don’t have any of those…After I order deluxe assorted sushi and they told me it’s $25 dollar but it’s $17.99 on the menuwhat’s going on!!
it’s close to the house, and available when needed, but only to be eaten when neededthe highlight of this restaurant is the service, but the kitchen itself is slow and the food mediocre More vegan options would help
This location is close to King Ed Canada Line station. Customers can walk and take the public transit to get to the restaurant. I drove to the restaurant. It was duringthe busy hours, so it was harder to find street parking. I came here a few times. I tried different dishes. Their sashimi was fresh and the portion of each dish was reasonable. The menu has a wide variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, fried noodles, sashimi and etc. The pricing is reasonable and acceptable as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like to eat Japanese food and if you are around this neighbourhood. Servers were Korean ladies. They were very polite. When the restaurant was busy full of customers, servers might be slower serving the customers. Be patient and be expected to wait for servers to come to your table and take care of your needs or orders.
Sushi Aria was near my place when I was in Vancouver, and looking online it seemed to have reviews that indicated a high quantity but low quality of food, all for a reasonable price. So my friend and I decided to call for pickup, and ended up ordering a lot of dishes. All our food was received promptly and was fresh. We opened and gazed at all the food – what a deal! Food unfortunately was a real downer. Coming from Edmonton, we have a lower standard expectations for sushi compared to Vancouver, and even with tempering those expectations I had troubles with the food. The sushi rolls we got fell apart easily on us and were quite boring and lacked flavour. Sashimi was average. Not too bad – I think a bit lower than average quality for Vancouver. Chicken Karage was unfortunately the worst of it all. I LOVE Chicken Karage. But this place unfortunately didn’t taste great. It tasted like stale KFC chicken and ugh, I don’t have fond memories of it.From what I saw of the interior and from the limited interaction I had with the staff, the location was clean and service was friendly. However, the food quality cannot be overlooked so all in all, not recommended.
I was a bit reluctant about trying this sushi resto, even though it’s in my neighborhood, cuz I was pretty sure it would be a Sushi Town style place. You know…large portion, but just mediocre seafood. Finally, wife and I convinced ourselves to test it out on a weeknight. The place wasn’t too busy. There were only two servers on the floor. It was a wait to be served and when we were seated, it took a while for the tea to come by. The server knew and saw that we had ask for tea, but somehow just didn’t deliver it or take our order until the third time she walked by. As expected the food was just mediocre. I didn’t find anything special about the sushi. It was falling apart when I picked it up, and the rice to be a bit too dry for my taste. The aburi saba & hotate (scallop) oshi sushi were hugely disappointing. The saba was torched until dry and there was so much mayo on the oshi sushi that I couldn’t find the scallops.I figured that the restaurant was Korean owned so I ordered the Korean chirashi, hoping for the best. The hot sauce was pretty much the star of this dish; add as much to suit your taste and mixed it in with the rice and seafood. The seafood was standard. The restaurant is quite large, but I found it was a bit cold and had no character.
