This review is targeted towards ASA Sushi customers prior to the change in ownership which happened around April 2016. The new owners/sushi chef uses the exact same menu (same prices) but the quality and quantity of the sushi is no where near what it was. What I have always loved about ASA Sushi was how they were generous with their sushi filling/fish and the size of the rolls. Now the difference is despicable. The rolls are much smaller and the amount of filling pitiful. My friend was the one who had picked up the order this last time so it wasn’t until I opened the party tray that I was instantly shocked (Usually I was the one who picked up the orders so I would have noticed the change in staff) by howsad/pathetic the rolls looked.Attached is a photo of the tamago and avocado roll. You can tell how skimpy they are in how they cut the tamago and using thin slices of avocado vs. using a whole chunk which is what the previous owner had done. I am sure past ASA Sushi goers know exactly what I am talking about. New comers: don’t be fooled by the photos posted prior to April 2016. They won’t be the same if you were to order those items now. Expect smaller, uglier rolls.
Great! I love this place. After going just a few times, owners now remember my name and always puts on a smile every time I get take out, or just eat in! I hate ginger, so they always leave that out of the box after requesting only one time! Will continue to go back!
Asa Special. Best deal
Great Sushi. Friendly staff and a local Japanese atmosphere. A very small restaurant with limited seating. Usually a wait during weekend evenings. Authentic Japanese made sushi, okay value since the size is abit small but that’s the norm for actual Japanese restaurant since each sushi is supposed to fit inside one’s mouth in one piece.Plenty of free parking around on side street and around the back.
We get take out from this place at least once a week…love the avocado and dynamite rolls…the couple who run the place are very friendly and the sushi is consistently good, we highly recommend Asa Sushi
Was surprised to have decent sushi here. I liked how the rolls had a good rice to fish ratio. Pretty fresh and i enjoyed the toro sashimi and cali rolls. Looking forward to trying the special rolls next time.
Very good for a quick bite. Their food is generally very good and fresh, except for the tuna. Usually, I have to wait 20 min before my tuna is fully defrosted. The wait for dinner can be up to 40 min especially because take out is very popular for this place. The service is very good, the owners are very nice. They have cheap prices that are aimed towards the students at Burnaby South Secondary, so it’s a good place to go for lunch.Although they are cheap, most of their food is better than the other places along Kingsway
