I love the baked items Elite Bakery bakes on site.. I am Danish and have never attempted to make the Copenhagens they make, nor the Kringler. Delicious!!! I have made rye bread but not the same as the bakery makes as it is the same as you can get in Denmark. Their buns are outstanding, especially if you warm them in the oven before eating.
King of Kringler?. Credit should be given for this holdout from a time gone by. I mean I remember a time when the Danish bakeries were a fairly common fixture particularly on Granville street in Vancouver. Now this place in burnaby seems to be one of last ones standing . Its pastries look a lot like the ones I was force fed by the ton as a child. We got some of the kringler a light almond pastry desert. A few of the other pastries and a assortment of bread. We also got a,strudel . Well some of the items weren’t quite fresh. The kringler was not very good at all. It seemed to oily and overall just didn’t taste great. We were surprised as this was touted as a flagship item. King of kringler emblazoned on signs throughout the bakery. In all fairness it does appear the current owner has stuck with his dads standards with regards to the Danish dark rye bread. It seemed exactly the same as how I remembered it . There was really a hit and miss with everything in our bags . I put it off to something’s perhaps being kept on the shelves longer than they shoud have been. I want to like this place but, our follow up visits went pretty much the same way . Some items were great some not so much. Service is decent enough but there’s a lack of consistency .
Deceiving at first glance.. It looks like nothing special with the nondescript decor. It’s pretty standard fare in the bakery scene in Vancouver, but there are some stars – the copenhagen has to be my favourite, and it’s quite crispy. The only thing to note is that there’s a lot of almond use here, so if anyone has a nut allergy then it’s best to stay away. Other than that, it’s a bakery with all homemade goods that’s been in the area for a long time. Worth stopping by.
Love that it is so close. HI, we go here often to get their Copenhagen, Kringles and of course the danish pasteries. So very good.
