The beating heart of Galiano Island. The Hummingbird Pub is quite possibly my favorite spot on Galiano Island, itself one of my favorite vacations spots. Tranquil, excellent pints, tasty dishes (their chowder is excellent, and their halibut quesadilla complements an Okanagan Spring Honey Lager perfectly). The staff is helpful, attentive, and very funny.
Me and my husband just tried this pub out yesterday for the first time. I’ve clicked the ‘I like it’ button but it could definitely do with some improvements. The decor is horrible and feels really out dated and nasty. The service was pretty good, the server was very friendly and chatty and helpful but was a bit overwhelmed with other tables and forgot a drink o had ordered for about 15 minutes. The food was good, I ordered the scallops which were hot, local, tasty and plenty of them. My husband had the fish and chips, they were good but not local fish and the bater was greasy. Being from England, I am super picky about fish and chips and if a place brags ‘best fish and chips’ then I expect it to be so, but this wasn’t the case. There were a minimal amount of chips too which is weird. Usually you should have a huge pile of chips with a thick piece of fish on top. This was more of a very small plate of chips with some thin fish on top. But disappointing. We did order pie and that was delicious! I would recommend the pies any day of the week.So all in all it was a good experience and as it’s the only pub on the island it probably does well.
Megan was awesome. Good atmosphere. Big crunchy ice cubes. I liked the sprinkley red and green things on the plate.
Good. We came to the island in August and made it a point to come by the Hummingbird Pub. We love the food! We’ve been here previously a few years ago and not much of the food has changed. Our group ordered the hamburger, the tiger prawns, the chicken strips, a cup of the Sturdies Bay chowder, and two orders of the seasonal seafood bake (I think that’s what it was called). The food was hot, plentiful, and delicious. The drinks were topped up promptly and the service was excellent! Best of all, the kids were allowed to dine in (outside on the patio) and also our well-behaved dog.
Everytime We Go, We Enjoy the Pub. Great burgers and fish and chips. A classic island pub that is worth popping in to if you are visiting Galiano.
Their food is no good!. This place has ridden 3 decade wave of success, now they seem to be forgetting about providing decent food! It was horrible. The Camari was deepfried until it was burnt harder than crisp bacon. The scooter rental guy asked us if we had bad food there the next day – turns out he is getting a lot of complaints from other tourists about the Hummingbird food. He agrees with us – use their very fun bus ride but only buy a beer or two at this pub. Oh yeah – it it no longer really a pub. Seems they allow children in and encourage folks to bring the kids, so it is really just a family restaurant now.
Very Disappointed. A group of friends visited the lovely Galiano Island this past long weekend and were very excited to take the Happy Bus from Montegue Harber to the Hummingbird Pub. We were 4 couples out for a dinner off the boats, making a table of 8 guests. We all ate dinner, an then ordered an after dinner drink, my husband & I ordered Grand Marnier and Cognac. When it was delivered it was obviously underpoured, the two one ounce drinks measured to 1.5 ounce which the bartender did not like getting called on. This was not the end of our premium drink experience, oh no, we both know are booze as I have been in the business for 35 years, these premium drinks that we paid premium dollar for were WATERED DOWN. Not impressed, then the bills came and the served said, oh we automatically add on 15% gratuities for groups of 8 or more, excuse me!!!! How rude is that, a gratuity is something you earn and not to be expected, as a result we will not return or send any business to the pub, and we are restaurant, inn owners on Vancouver Island. Was it worth watering your alcohol down for?
