Like being in the Mediterranean. The Saturna Island Vineyard Bistro is all about the atmosphere! On a sunny day, the patio is a perfect place to sip a glass of wine. You’ll see huge mountain cliff-faces behind you (with eagles, ravens and paragliders soaring on the thermal updrafts) and acres upon acres of vines, huge douglas firs and ocean glimpses in front of you. The wineshop attendant told us that the vineyard is actually in a semi-mediterranean micro-climate, and that it is a few degrees warmer here at the vineyard than on the rest of the island. In the years I’ve visited Saturna, I’ve found the quality of food to range from incredible to average (it seems they have a new cook/chef every summer). The most consistent of the wines are the pinot gris and the Gewurztraminer; their port-style wine the Vinsera is also quite nice. The staff are friendly and informative, and the view can’t be beat.
