Always good. We frequent this restaurant whenever we visit Mayne Island. All our meals have been good to excellent, the service is always cheerful and attentive. I love the oyster burger or the shrimp quesadilla. Nice craft beers on tap as well. The view is to die for, whether you are on the deck or inside. Yes, it’s dated, but cut them some slack, they are serving a very small island population.
WOW. First of all, the view is spectacular! While my husband and I were looking at the view, before we knew it our food was there. It was delivered by a nice young waitress and tasted great! We’ve been there four times, which could have been five but we went to the Bennett Bay Bistro and were treated like $H!T. Next time we come to Mayne we wont make the mistake of going anywhere else.
Well we are sitting on the deck in brilliant sunshine on a magnificent west coast evening so perhaps this review is biased:-) However the service has been great and all our food was good. We had the lamb chops and the catfish specials and both were fine. I agree that the indoors is a minimal and I would mistake this for a fine dining establishment. But all the deck tables were reserved and for sure you cannot beat the view.
Rude & Abusive. Awful service, The staff and owner are from another world. Treated our family like we should be privileged to dine at their run down dive. The owner was so rude as to tell us that if we didn’t like the service we could leave. When our order finally arrived (45 min. later) it was wrong and cold.Though the deck was new, a local sitting next to us. Told us the only reason there was new deck was because the building inspector condemned the old one and threatened to close them down. It is clear that this place is just a cash cow for the owner. Aside from the deck, it doesn’t look like a penny has been spent on this place since it was built.The only reason this place is still in business IMO is because of the wonderful view from the deck.Avoid this place like the plaque.
Stick with the oysterburger or the fish n chips, make sure you’re not in a rush, and get a patio table on a sunny evening. You’ll have a great time.
Greasy food and they need an interior decorator STAT! I guess if the patio had been open the view would have been cool but it wasn’t. Zero atmosphere.
Surprisingly Good Pub Food. I was expecting sub-standard pub food, especially considering how budget the accommodation is. But I was surprised by the quality of the food we got. The vegetarian selection was a bit limited, but what we ordered was excellent. The spinach dip came with fresh nacho chips. Both the stir fry and garden salad we had were full of fresh ingredients and very tasty. They also have a large and popular patio with great views of Active Pass. canadianveggie.wordpress.com
