Extremely slow service, the calamari was cold and over battered. Never seen perogy appetizers like this – small and dried out. One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. An embarrassment because we brought guests from Montreal there.
This restaurant was horrendous to say the least. We waited about 15 minutes to get served. We ordered sangria, which was not as advertised. Basically house wine, with some 7-Up added and frozen strawberries. We ordered the Georgia Straight Seafood Share Platter. Basically Deep Fried Calamari, Deep fried Salmon, Deep Fried Halibut and Deep Fried Cod. What arrived was arguably the worst meal I have ever ordered in the Lowermainland. The Calamari was dried leathery and freezer burned. One bite out of this told me there was something wrong. How a cook could serve this, it was so obviously not edible. The server explained that due to the slow period over the holidays at the restaurant, they have been using frozen food the entire time over the holidays. She also explained that the kitchen staff tend to refreeze seafood when not used that day. How can a restaurant operate this way???The Salmon and chips tasted like it had been in the freezer for months. It had no flavour what so ever. How sad that a restaurant that is located on a fishing wharf is serving frozen seafood. The salmon was mushy and oily and had no flavor. The cod was a small piece.Three pieces of fish was supposed to be shared between two people? Thank god we were not served more, as my wife became ill that evening, most likely from having consumed some of the halibut. Also, the table next to me returned their food as well, basically because of the tasteless and mushy fish and chips. I felt terrible for the wait staff who clearly knew what the problem was, and to give them fair credit, they did their best in dealing with upset customers after the fact.My advice is to run away from this restaurant and spend your money elsewhere. Based on other reviews, I wish I had read before I had stepped in this joke of a restaurant. Too bad that they are taking up great real estate that could be better utilised by someone that cares about food and their customers.
Yuck, yuck, yuck. Why would you eat here when ‘none’ of the food is local nor fresh. Please don’t waste your time.I had plastic left on my scallop.. Never, ever go back… Support local and fresh… There is sooo many better choices… You have to question too is it really halibut…..?
This one of the restaurants located near the docks in Steveston. It has nice ambiance and a good view of the dock side. The food is good here.
Shady island seafood – nice ambience with music and a bar style theme. I ordered the seafood platter to share with my father which had 1 piece for each type of fish. The entire dish was $45 and it had calamari, fish, fries and dips. Perfect for sharing. The fries were pretty crispy and the ketchup was served in Dixie cups, why I mentioned this is because most restaurants have them in stainless steel cups or black plastic. The haddock was my favourite because it was crispy and nicely seasoned. I didn’t try the salmon but according to my dad, it was good. The cod on the other hand was very bland and the frying kind of fell apart. The calamari was also crispy too and it had tomato and green onions garnishing it to make it look nice. They had lemons on the bottom layer to make it look good too. Pretty good service too, I would probably go back. burgerbun.wordpress.com
Food was good but the place was very short staff for Steveston on a weekend.
Needs alot of work. Was looking for a place for fish n chips in the evening. Saw that this was the only restaurant that wasn’t too busy (and now I know why….) and picked up a 2pc regular and fries. Fish was tasteless, could only finish it with the sauce. The chips were decent. Would have fed the food to the sea lions, though i doubt even they would like it. In then end I made sure I got my monies worth by helping myself to a few cans of soda and water bottles that they leave unmonitored in a nice bucket of ice beside the condiments ;D
