This rating is being generous… It must’ve been an off day because I heard my boyfriend’s family rave about this eatery. It was much smaller than I thought when viewing from the sidewalk. It was our first time there for dinner. We were told that we had to leave in two hours. It doesn’t allow one to have a relaxing time for a meal with loved ones. The feeling of having to be rushed.. The portions were quite small for the price they are charging their patrons. It would probably be less expensive to go there for lunch instead. The odd thing after we all ordered our individual donburis was that the server asked if we wanted extra bowls for rice… Lol. Note to restaurant.. Don’t overbook. Or expand your restaurant. But don’t rush your paying customers out the door after paying outrageous prices for dinner.
Small gem in the heart of steveston village. The sashimi is always fresh and their tempura and agedashi tofu are crispy but not oily. I recommend this place for small family outing, couple date or small parties.
Surprisingly better than I expected from this hidden restaurant at the heart of Steveston Village. The sashimi and sushi were fresh and the tempura was cooked with the good crispiness. Price is within reason for the quality you get. Overall it was good. Service can be slow with only 1 sushi chef and 1 hostess/waiter. Overall experience: Thumb’s up.
A tiny Japanese restaurant in Steveston that offers fresh and delicious sushi. I ordered agedashi mozzarella, kiwami roll and seafood salad – all very good. My only complaint is, the food takes a long time to arrive, but I get it, it’s a 2 man show. The chef and waitress, so be prepared to wait.
Tasteless gyoza. Terrible spicy tuna. Took us an hour to get gyoza and chicken and another 30 to get our sushi. We were also getting our food later than a family thay came in 30 mins after us. Just awful.
The best kept secret in Steveston. A small restaurant upstairs on Bayview Street in Steveston. A traditional Japanese family owned business. The tempura is the best I have had anywhere. (crispy, light and not greasy) The gyozas are hand made and are delicious. If you like agadashi tofu you have to try the agadashi mozzarella. Instead of tofu they use fresh mozzarella cheese. The taste is amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for true, authentic Japanese food. As the place is small, reservations are highly recommended. You will not be dissapointed.
Tasty!. I can’t believe I had not eaten at Shintaro Sushi before, since I live in Steveston. My fiance and I tried it for the first time and were very pleased. Everything about the meal was amazing. We ordered the miso soup, ‘mozzarella,’ gyoza, salmon sashimi, dynamite roll, spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll. Every single thing we had was flavourful and fresh. The service was awesome too. We usually go to Mega Sushi, but I know we will be coming here more often. Glad I finally found out about this place!
