if only I’ve been to other Ethiopian ones to compare to but so far, pretty impressed with overall atmosphere, decor, value and of course, the food.Have driven by here hundreds of times by Hastings, trying to beat that red light at Clark, but I digress, right at the intersection.Asked the owner for their signature dish, it’s their chicken with injira, a pillowy-soft wrap, like a crepe, where you can either peel off, or put the spicy chicken with its amazing spices. Filling & yummy. Can take big parties too, the private room sits around 30 or so.And a nice seating lounge area in the corner. TV & I assume African music in the background.Friendly service. You can book reservations online and for pickup on their website.
To be honest, I was disappointed with Axum. I’m not going to pretend to be any kind of expert on Ethiopian food or even African food. I found this VERY similar to Somali cuisine. What disappointed me about Axum is that the meat was a bit tough, the sauce a bit generic. Once you get used to the bread, it is VERY filling. In fact, there’s not much room left to enjoy the dish it’s served with.
Excellent food and great service! But their injera (and most of the vegetarian food) is always served cold. If it weren’t for this, I’d definitely be giving them 5 stars.
Ye Doro Tibs and Ye Lamb Tibs. Very tasty and real Ethiopian spices make it unique. My family and i have eaten and taken injera and wots many times.we love it.
Customer. Axum Restaurant in Vancouver is a place to enjoy delicious food, a place to throw a party, a place with friendly and family environment, a place to learn about Ethiopian cultures and to see beautiful painted pictures made by Ethiopian artists
Pleasantly surprised.. Went here for a birthday dinner where we didn’t get to choose the place. Pretty hesitant going in to it but overall it was a good experience. Food was flavourful (we got a share platter so we could try a bunch of different things). The bread you have to eat your food with takes a bit getting used to but I would go back. I’m not saying it’s on my list of top places to go but if you want to try something different it’s worth a visit.
Dang fine!. Took my Mom there before a movie for her first trial of Ethiopian cuisine. Didn’t have time for the full experience but tried a variety of meat and veggie dishes and loved them all. Great service (Alem) and cool dcor and we will be returning when back in town. If you want a pure teff injera you need to give them a day notice and it’s a little bit more (I’d recommend it, and will next time I think), otherwise the batter is a combo of teff and barley, since teff is quite expensive.
