Silkscarf winery is owned, and was built, by a close family friend – Idan Manoff. His wine was served at my brother’s wedding (my brother helped to plant some of the vineyard) – and Idan’s wine and food is incredible! Definitely something you won’t want to miss. My partner and I are thinking of asking to have our wedding at this location in a few years – in the beautiful Summerland backdrop, you couldn’t ask for prettier views, better company, or more delicious food and wine. This is a visit you won’t regret.

For Serious Foodies Only. This is one place you don’t want to miss if you are anywhere near Kelowna, Peachland, Summerland, or the Okanagan in general. I am serious; you will talk about this for the rest of your life. This is a little family run winery and Kitchenette that is incomparable. When you first arrive you are greeted as family by Roie and Ruth who will introduce you to their lovely wines, the Viognier is delightful as is the dry Muscat Riesling, In the reds I especially like the Cab Franc and Syrah/Viognier blend. The 2006 Pinot Noir is outstanding but no longer available unless you can talk Roie out of one of his personal stock. NOW FOR THE TREAT BUT YOU MUST book well in advance, Tara (their Daughter-in-Law’s) little Kitchenette. It is only open Saturdays and Sundays for lunch in the summer and books up fast as they limit the afternoon to only serving about 20 people. Here is how it works, you first select a wine (glass, bottle or two) from Roie or Ruth then tell Tara what you selected and she will custom make for you a repasts you will never forget with nothing but fresh home made ingredients. It always starts with a basket of fresh hot loaves of different bread and 5-6 little bowls of love. I can’t call them tapas as there is nothing to compare, typically some of their local cheese, a tapanade of sorts, and other various outstanding delights that you will never find anywhere else. Then comes another couple of specially prepared treats, a homemade Pate, or cured duck or stuffed pastry, or salad, again it all depends on what is fresh and will perfectly match the wine you chose. The final dish is usually some kind of fresh homemade pasta that again Tara customizes; we’ve had a scrumptious cauliflower cream version, morel mushroom and spring garlic scapes, and other lovely combinations. I know that this sounds a bit vague but there is no way to categorize Tara’s cuisine as it is all love and nothing but fresh ingredients customized for the wine and day, it is always changing but always absolutely outstanding. You will never leave un-sated or wanting for anything but a nap. Plan to spend the afternoon there sitting, sipping and talking Roie and Ruth, their delightful son and vintner, Idan, who will also be your server and of course, Tara, with an occasional visit from the family pets, Easy and Bruno. This is by far the best, most delicious, and fun afternoon we have had anywhere in North America. When we come up from Houston for the summer we call and book every weekend for June and July. Please, if you are in the area DO NOT miss this but DO BOOK AHEAD. You will be talking about it for years to come!!
