I like this place but it gets really busy. The only decent place in south surrey for sure. It’s not very consistent but it’s good and they have cool dishes.
Always a busy place. Despite this, the food is quite good and the service adequate. We’ve been there many times and they’ve always maintained a pretty good standard. The sashimi is always fresh and the sushi is delicious. Although it’s not the best Japanese place in the area, it offers good value and I would definitely recommend it.
The restaurant was very busy during our stay however the food did not live up to standards. The tuna tataki was the worst I’ve ever had!! Huge chunk of mushy tuna that was only seared on one side??! The tempura was pretty bad too. Too much batter and very dense. it arrived all soft not what you would expect. The sashimi was ok not the best either. I don’t know why the place was packed with customers. Quality was very poor.
I’ve had great service at this restaurant before but I went last night (Tuesday night) and it was busyish. Our food ( a Cucumber roll and chicken teriyaki roll) took 45 minutes to arrive. The other people at our table (of 7 people) got their 3 round of food before I had gotten my two rolls. By the time I actually received the rolls I had asked the server twice about the eta and went up to the kitchen to ask the chef. The people at my table asked if they would comp the rolls because it took a ridiculously long to for two simple rolls. The server wouldn’t listen and argued with us on every point. After that it took another 20 minutes before she came back around so we could ASK for our bill. I have enjoyed this restaurant before and I will not be going back every again. They were so rude about how long the food was taking and wouldn’t just get the food to me, kept telling me that its chicken so it needs to be cooked.
Have been here quite a few times since discovering it. Quality and portion size is good, however the service is questionable. Ordered gomae as an appy and it had Wasabi mixed in. It was very unappetizing especially if you’re expecting the taste of sesame. Our server explained it only had a little bit mixed in and we said gomae is not made with Wasabi but rather sesame. We’ve ordered it many times before from here and never did it taste so bad so we sent it back and did not ask for a replacement. When we ordered our meal, we made it clear to our server that we did not want any Wasabi in our rolls. One dinner came with and one without. We didn’t even bother to complain again…I get that restaurants have off days but to argue with the customers and trying to convince that Wasabi is normal in gomae is not acceptable. They do serve good food but i think their wait staff need to improve on communication & customer service skills.
Very unfortunate that maguroguy sold at the end of 2014. Hojisan has moved on to his next venture. Sushi rice falls apart and didn’t taste the same, fish isn’t as fresh and employees are disappointed. Was one of my favourites and won’t be going back. Last time we were there they ran out of sushi rice and we couldn’t order half of the things on the menu. Sad to see a good restaurant go bad
Stopped here without reading reviews. My usual go to sushi places in Surrey are Kami and Takas. I’ll start off by saying I will go back. I was intrigued with some of the menu items. Ordered the black cod gyoza, Wasabi prawns and a plain Jane cali dynamite combo. I was happy with the food, portion sizes were good and flavor was enough for me to want to come back to try other things. The plain rolls were not as good as the other sushi places I visit so probably wouldn’t order them again. The restaurant was clean and new and our service was good. Would recommend this place to friends.
