I work in the area from time to time and had been meaning to come in and try the food. It was very good. There was a lot of flavours, and the chicken wasn’t dry. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and my husband had the Chicken Talfrazie. 2 minor negative points. The amount of rice that we ordered was a bit on the small side and I requested plain naan bread and we got garlic naan and was charged according (the wait staff need to listen a bit more).
We got a tip that this place had good food so we thought we’d try ordering take out. Possibly the worst service we’ve ever had. The food was passable as mediocre North American Indian fare – nothing special here. What distinguishes the Original Tandoori Kitchen is the rudeness and unprofessional service at order and at the counter on pick-up. It wad almost without parallel and we will never go back. From the original taking of order to the pickup – rude, contemptuous and indifferent. The food would need to be impossibly improved to make up for the shitty attitude.
We ordered the chicken tandoori, lamb biryani, and aloo paratha. The latter, stuffed with potatoes and peas, was very satisfying. The lamb biryani was flavorful with tender pieces of lamb, according to my wife. I thought it was a bit bland and lacked ingredients. The tandoori chicken was not exactly disappointing, but was not what we expected. The chicken was baked on its own, and the sauce came in a separate dish, resulting in chicken that was not flavored to our liking. We might come back in the future to try other things.
Located in a residential area.Actually one of the nicer Indian restaurants in South Van, so good to bring clients to, as long as you’re ok with the food. Carpeted, nice decor.had the butter chicken before, a bit too creamy, not enough taste to it. Garlic naan bread was a bit better.Lots of parking along the sides.
Awful indian food. The first shock was that there was no dal makhani in their vegetarian menu!!?? OMG, my kids won’t eat without dal, but since they were hungry and we couldn’t wait, we ordered ‘dal turka’, paneer makhni (hot), naan and missi roti.After a few bites I found a tiny stone in the dal!! awful !!/ I showed that to the lady serving food, she took the stone with her and didn’t say anything…after 15 mins she came and offered to change the dal, when we were half done with our meal.so that was of no use to us…this is the quality of food they are serving to us??? the paneer which was supposed to be hot was actually extra sweet..yuck!! and missi roti had no mixed flours in it, only maida(plain flour)..When we told the owner about the stone in the dal, he said that if this happens next time, we will change the dish for you….that clearly means they are going to do it over and over again!!!…. i’m never going to recommend this place to anyone…
Food OK – Service terrible. When I called to place my order for pick-up I asked for recommendations for 4 people and the woman on the other end told me to call back when I knew what I wanted.The people there when I went to pick it up looked and sounded like they hated their lives.The food was ok, but not what I would call authentic.
Fantastic!!. The food was incredible and reasonably priced. Our server, Mandi, was very friendly and personable. Definitely going back here!
