This place is always so welcoming to me and the other seniors in the village. The young and friendly staff make it a point to know customer’s names and get to knowyour likes. The food is homemade and baked fresh in their kitchen and it is always delicious. I have taken many frozen meals home to bake later and it has been really convenient and easy to have them on hand in my freezer. I really like their coffee and they always make my cappuccino with care. I typically go for a slice of pie ortreat in the afternoon with one of my friends and it’s a very nice atmosphere for people in the neighbourhood. The breads are also very good and I typicallylike the rustic loaf that goes with everything and has a nice flavour and crust. When I have friends visit we go there and they are always impressed, so I will definitely keep coming back and recommend to others!
Best comfort food on campus! Best lemon vanilla creme brulee, never been excited for a dessert before. Homemade soup (ham and barley) had the right consistency not too thick not too thin in flavor depth. They change their baked goods and servings almost everyday.
Doughgirls is a small old-style bakehouse nestled in a corner in Wesbrook Village. It is adjacent to Rogers Chocolates- just look for the bright red fancy ‘Doughgirls’ sign. There is a long wooden table (strangely one side is slightly tilted, but don’t worry, your sandwich won’t slide right off) and another long wooden table with high stools. There is a cheerful ‘Hey y’all’ sign when you get in, greeting you. The ladies at the cashier are always friendly and are very helpful. I have tried lots of their baked goods, and all of them never fail to impress. I would recommend the Annie Oakley cookie (if they have it.) It is pretty much a mix of salt and sweet- a perfect combo. The rich chocolate works with the salty pretzels and is very dense and rich so wash your stomach down with an aloe drink or something. It’s soft and delicious. Today I tried the Granny’s apple pie- I thought the lady warmed it up (because I love warm pies) but it was cold, but I didn’t bother to ask them to heat it up cause it was already really good. The rich apples and cinnamon blended with the sweet pastry. But I found the pastry too thick and dense, and the parts by the edge were waaaay too thick. I wish the pie was warm but it was already pretty good. They forgot the fork for my salad which came with soup once (but that didn’t really matter.) Overall it’s a really good place for baked goods, especially cookies and shortbreads!
Located in the wesbrook village, it was really busy on a Saturday afternoon. I stumbled upon some photos of the inside of this bakeshop on instagram. Then I searched it up and realized it was at ubc so I thought I’d give it a try. It isn’t a big place with a large table, a few window seats, and a couple of old school desks. But it feels cozy and comforting. I liked the little mason jar cups they used for water. I actually wanted to go to try their Shepherd’s pie, except I was feeling for something a bit lighter. So I decided on their sandwich with salad. It was tasty. The ingredients were fresh and I was satisfied with it. For the price, I think it is worth it, especially compared to what you can get at the Nest or things closer to the middle of campus. Their baked goods looked really good too. I would definitely make the trek here if I have long breaks between classes to grab lunch or a snack.
Why I love this place: other than Great Dane, this is another coffee shop gem found near campus. It carries a wide selection of pastries/desserts as well as savoury items for lunch! Would I come back: yesWould I recommend it to others: yes eatingwithmyeyesyvr.tumblr.com
A hidden gem in the UBC neighbourhood!. Doughgirls Comfort Kitchen & Bakeshop provides high-quality food (sandwiches, wraps, savoury pies, soups, etc), freshly baked pastries/desserts, and drinks. Moreover, I’m really impressed by their customer service! The staff is always welcoming and friendly! The reason I keep going back to Doughgirls is not only the delicious food and baked goods they have, but also the awesome staff working there 🙂 Their decor is adorable and they have great playlists that make me want to dance. Some people may comment that things are expensive there, but I’m a ‘quality over quantity’ kinda person, so I think the price is fair for the quality of food & service you get. My personal favourites include, but are not limited to the almond croissant, gooey cinnamon bun, blueberry & citron scone, house-made sausage pasty, kimchi kalbi burrito, tourtiere, housemade lemonades, and their fruit pies! It’s really difficult to pick just one thing when I go in because everything looks delicious!!! I highly recommend you to try out Doughgirls! It’s definitely a hidden gem in the UBC neighbourhood!!!
This place is way too special to me. When I’m having a not so great day this is where I go especially for the chocolate cake (photo attached) and the friendly staff. When I’m having a good day, this place tends to make it better with the smiling faces, food that remind me of home (read preserved veggies) and the choice of music playing in the background. Think Norah Jones! Calm and relaxing it is also a great place to work when they aren’t too busy. I always leave with a new kind of bread loaf to try and another piece of their baked snacks. A tea to try is the ginger tulsi rooibos!
