This is the only place at UBC where I have zero hesitation in recommending it to other people. The staff here knows how to provide excellent customer service, plain and simple. They don’t try and do anything too fancy, they just make you feel like they actually care about your business and are trying to retain said business. The food here is good, and there is a huge variety. The ambiance is pretty casual and it’s not too much to look at. But again, I have to go back to the service. I ate here for two years and never once was I the recipient of anything less than top-notch customer service. The owner would offer my friends and I free coffees when we came in the afternoon to order breakfast. Just a great place all around.
Not impressed.. Looking for somewhere that served breakfast, I discovered this is about the only place on campus to go. The reviews said it was decent, so thought I’d try.Not everything on the menu is on the menu board, which was confusing, but unsurprising since they seem to have about 30 breakfast options. I got veggie eggs benedict and an orange juice, which came to $16. I figured for that price it should be pretty good. The hash browns weren’t bad, but the eggs benedict weren’t great. The fact that they use cheap eggs (bright yellow yolks) was unimpressive, given what I paid. Also, I thought that the hollandaise sauce was to do with the mushrooms at first, since it was clear and had that slightly cornstarch-y texture you get from chinese takeout. The one impressive thing was that my food came really quickly. I was finished eating within 15 minutes of ordering. All in all, I’m not especially impressed, and definitely unimpressed with the prices.
Sit-in diner; breakfast all day. I’ve been here a handful of times with a big group and luckily, they’re quite big and so we always had seats for everyone. This diner has a very homey and local feel to it. Located at the village on campus, this is a great place to have brunch. I got the pesto chicken and cheese panini ($8.50) and loved every bite of it. The cashier asked if I wanted salad or soup with it and I chose Caesar salad for an additional $3, which I wasn’t aware so I would have appreciated if he told me first. The veggies weren’t very fresh and it came with one piece of dried carrot which seemed awkwardly out of place and unappetizing. A friend ordered the typical 2 eggs and bacons ($8) which came with toast. Other than residences, this is the only other place on campus that I know will serve you eggs the way you want them. Their menu is extensive, with not only breakfast all day, but burgers and sandwiches as well. I would come here more often if the prices were slightly lowered which I believe it should as we’re all students and there are so many other choices on campus. I could probably get a sandwich elsewhere for cheaper at the SUB. secondspls.blogspot.com
Great value, fresh food. I’m from Australia, have been in Vancouver for almost a year and from the from the first day I moved to UBC and ate at Only U Cafe, I have always had tasty, fresh food representing excellent value. I have now eaten in numerous places around Vancouver, Whistler and the US (from casual to upmarket) and nothing comes close to the great food I’ve had at Only U Cafe. Every time I’ve been there the service has been friendly and fast, the food fresh and tasty and with plenty on the plate, it is always great value for money. While it is a basic cafe in terms of interior, in my opinion the food offered exceeds expectations and you know the food is good when the place is full of customers (and mostly students) at most times of the day. I’ve not had a poor standard meal there yet and it is my favourite place to eat in Vancouver. The best thing about it is its reliability – every time you order you get a great meal. I can’t say the same about most other places I’ve eaten in Vancouver. Being at UBC, its a long way from downtown, but in my opinion, for cafe style food, especially breakfasts and burgers, this is by far the best place to eat in Vancouver. Love it!
Diner on Campus. The food is not very good, its a little expensive for what you get, but its the only diner like place on campus. You can get breakfast all day. If you are on campus and want breakfast or something simple this might be your best bet.
Super awsome place. My family and i go often And all of us eat under 25 bucks
Only U is a great place to eat, there’s outdoor and indoor seating. Although, it’s a dollar or to too pricy. There is always seating which is awesomme. Btw their fries are wicked!
