A small HK cafe with parking around it. The interior wasn’t exactly nice and it was on the dirty side. Service was normal but you can see that the owner tried. I ordered a build your own soup combo with a lychee green tea. The green tea that came was milky color looking which is weird. I took a sip and it tasted very bad. Nothing like lychee or green tea at all. I placed it aside and I guess the owner saw. She came over and told me they use lychee powder that’s why it’s different and she offered me a new drink. I ordered the one my friend got which was honey green tea cause that one is fine other than it being overly sweet. She said they ran out of green tea so I told her to just give me water. The soup combo I built was Laska soup with beef balls and viet ham with thick noodles. When it came out the soup already looks different from the laskaI usually have at deer garden and other restaurants. I tried the soup and immediately I knew what it was. It was the curry sauce for curry fish balls. They just added some water or plain chicken soup to make it soupy. Although laska is a type of curry, but it’s still very different from regular curry.Overall, I would not come back and my friend didn’t like his order as well.

Despite all the mixed reviews at benss cafe, I took a risk and tried it out. The interior is renovated, looks like a suitable Hong Kong style cafe. I asked our server what she would recommend since this will be my first time here. She recommended the baked pork chop on rice, the fish filet on rice, and the mushroom yee mein. Ok make it so pretty lady! So how did it taste? The baked pork chop on rice is done amazingly well… I took the pork chop on another plate to cut it down the middle and it was surprisingly very moist. The mushroom yee mein is a classic recipe and yes, that was done very well too… Hmm no strikes so far and everything is looking good. Now the fish.Fresh fish, no seafood smell… Sauce is lovely and comforting… Heck, still no strikes. Ball four, I’ll take the walk to first base.Would I come back again? Actually I would, I sometimes do banking errands around that corner. Now knowing how reasonable the prices are and knowing those three items were done nicely, how could I not? When I was there, alot of people were ordering take out.Was there a wow factor? Not quite, but I would have to say that if your scrub out and your hungry, want a decent cheap and fast meal better then mcdonalds across the street, I would come. As for service, our teas and waters were filled and our server asked how the recommendations were. I guess perhaps I lucked out?

DO NOT TRY! Bad food bad quality bad service. Ordered their fried rice & meat sauce spaghetti for take out. The rice is all dried out, no taste at all. Fired rice is a very basic dish in Chinese restaurant. their chef sucks! the meat sauce spaghetti is gross. As I was opening the cover, there’s a foul smell coming out!! At first I thought it was the cheese, after trying a few bite, I cannot continue anymore. It was the spaghetti noodle that was making the smell. For the money I pay, i m not expecting premium food, but please provide your customer with food that is safe to eat. Called the restaurant and let them know about the foul smell coming from the noodle, the woman on the other side of the phone was very rude and said the food they provide is all fresh and then hung up!

YUCK! Small portion, dirty, and no service!. Cafe? Really? Don’t even know how to make milk tea, made by instant powder! Portions are so small and charge $8.5 for lunch? no service with dirty utensil, amazing!

Haven’t tried their specialty rice pots or noodle soups. Tried duck fried rice and I can’t remember what else. It was all pretty good quality, taste, size and value. I always find them polite and the booths look nice but we’ve never ate there.

Reasonably priced HK cafe food. Service isn’t the best but this is not the place to expect exceptional service. Food takes awhile to arrive.

I second that one! stay away from the noodles. Actually i would warn that even further …stay away from this restaurant. It serves nothing but over salted food and bad service. the waitresses give bad looks and bad attitude! aside from enjoying the pirated hong kong dramas that they download on their two TVs I don’t see anything appealing about this place. porkninjas.ca
