I have been trying to get to Bistro Wagon Rouge for ages! We finally got there last night, a quiet weeknight right before the long weekend…Everything looked so good on the regular menu, moules et frites, steak frites, halibut, but I went with the Tarte Bleu on the Daily Board. Also tried a couple of the Escargots. The escargots were so good, but the Tarte Bleu! Buttery yet crispy puff pastry, yummy blue cheese and poached pear to balance the strong cheese, all with a light salad on the side. Hubby had some frites with mayo, and the daily Tartines. I had enough room for dessert, so I tried the lemon tart. Just enough tart and sweet taste with fresh raspberries and whipped cream on top! This tiny restaurant has a great cocktail list and lots of wines and beers to choose from. We’ll be back for sure!
We had the butter lettuce, grilled octopus, beef cheeks, and duck breast. Distinct flavours, reasonable prices, and friendly service are what made the restaurant stand out. It’s a good place for a date night but better to limit to a small group – tiny restaurant.
A tip of the head once seated lets you look directly into the kitchen window. How intimate is that? Food is direct ,simple and delightful. This is hidden gem I feel guilty exposing to the lot of you. I want to keep it a personal secret. But what’s the fun in that?So go!Maybe one day I’ll see a line up like the Red Wagon has. Until then I will enjoy and recommend.Menu? Just go and see what is on tonight. When it gets stupid popular I’ll move on. But not yet!
This place is amazing. The menu is pricey but well worth it. We shared a couple of feature pates and prime rib appetizers. For main I had the feature mussels which were to die for. Just a beautiful selection of high end food and the feel of the place is cozy and lovely.
This place is unique. It’s in a unique area surrounded by micro brews, the decor and food isn’t over complicated, however plentiful, delicious and reasonably priced. The service was outstanding as well. Highly recommend a visit of you like modern French cuisine.
Lost my appetite…. Pork belly tartines: pork so dry and over cooked it taste like eating cardboard. You can’t taste anything on there other then chewing as hard as you can before you swallow the food. Chicken liver mushroom: Tasty.. but also the bread under was almost to the point impossible to eat. I think my shoe sole was easier to digest. Roasted Beef cheek: Was so salty.. i couldn’t taste the meat at all. But the meat was super tender. I’m sure in this dish there was more salt then the daily recommended intake. Bathroom: If you want to use the bathroom, it’s inside the kitchen. I’m not sure how well that goes with the health code but all night non stop i see customer going to the bathroom and I personally stood beside the dishwasher by the fridge as i waited for the bathroom. The fridge door is 3ft from the bathroom door. And there were open pots of sauce they were using all night right by the bathroom door also. and yes.. they dry the dishes there too…. at least the service was good. I can’t recommend this place to anyone at all.
Good vibe and atmosphere. Small spot, so be prepared to wait for a table. Had the chicken liver parfait, French onion soup, steelhead and steak frites. Steelhead was probably the best I’ve ever had; it was so moist and flavourful. Small menu so I won’t be back soon, but I definitely will return in the future.
