If you haven’t tried their Potatoe Bread yet, you really ought to! It’s not like a lefse/Norwegian or Irish or Newfoundland potatoe one which is more of a flatbread. It’s more rather like a conventional loaf (and large). It’s simple in flavour and scrumptious! We just really enjoy it for grilled cheese sandwiches or with a chowder. I stopped by to get the usual grain bread here which they happened to be out of and I’m sorta pleased that they were.30 Sep, 2012Experienced Bakers. This bakery is a solid choice. Everything I’ve had here has exceeded my expectations & the folks working here seem to love what they’re doing. I really like their unique seasonal goodies like the plum croissant…first time I’ve had that flavour and it was so, so good..had just the perfect texture. Try the S.O.B – it’s quite an indulgence!

A bakery like you’d find in a small town.. Homestyle baked goods. The variety is amazing! Becoming very popular with local restaurants who order their desserts from Black Rook.

Special Take Home to the Kootenays. Down in Vancouver for the big American Educational Research Association conference (12,000 academics downtown!), I stopped by my favourite bakery in Vancouver, had a piece of pear, walnut & blackberry pie, and ordered 4 brisket and stout pot pies (the most amazing flavors!), a rasberry/rhubarb pie, and 4 fabulous cheese croissants to pick up on my way home several days later. My partner had invited 4 friends (I had two extra of the brisket and stout pot pies I had been saving in my freezer) and we all went down to the Little Slocan River spot at our home, by the garden. With table and chairs and the heated up pot pies and the great salad the friends brought over, we had our first outdoor evening of the 2012 season. The delightful flavours and a couple of bottles of wine and the finally changing weather made for a perfect evening, Thanks to Karen and Dana at the Black Rook Bakehouse for their great food! We had two mornings of croissants and tea, and just finished up the last bite of pie yesterday. Still the best crust, several days later. Melt in your mouth!

A tasty SOB. The SOB brownie is one tasty SOB. It allows Lopan to live out some earthly pleasures. Lopan cares not for North American styles cakes, but the cake was pretty good and not too sweet. Lopan will return
