This is one of a relatively small handful of German restaurants in Vancouver, and is fittingly located on the ground level of the Vancouver Alpen Club. They have various specials on different days of the week; I went on Tuesday for their Schnitzel Tuesday special. The food came very quickly (probably within 5 minutes). Taste-wise, it was decent, not great. The service was also so-so; I do think that they are probably more comfortable with regulars/club members. Overall, I’m pretty lukewarm about this place; while I wouldn’t discourage people from going, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it either.Schnitzel Tuesday ($14.99):3/5This consisted of two large, thin pieces of breaded pork, a side of salad, and potato salad. The pork was relatively tender with a nice crispy coating, but was unfortunately quite under-seasoned and bland. In the description on the menu, it says that the dish was supposed to contain some cranberry sauce; I don’t know if they forgot to include it or if they’ve since removed it but I could have really done with some sauce to help provide flavour to the meat. The salad was fine, and was dressed in a sweet and tangy vinaigrette. The potato salad was German-style, and contained pickles, onions and a lighter, tangy dressing in place of the traditional mayonnaise. It tasted fine, although I do personally prefer mayo dressing. It was a fairly good portion, and since it was on special, I thought that the price was reasonable.
Well done schnitzel! Its a pirce of pork, brrad crumbs and dine well! Mos mt ola es screw up simplicity. Their red cabbage was soo tasty, pickled and balanced sweetness with spatzle. Is it mind blowing, not evem close but its well do e I had tp eat it ALL! Like great German home cooking! Joanne my servwr was great and friendly people in the place, german patrons whom said this is LEGIT GERMAN!
Dinner for 3 on Saturday night. I booked ahead on opentable.com so I could collect points. Anyway, I ordered the Krombacher Radler ($3.25 for 300ml) to start. It was refreshing and easy to drink almost felt like pop. The sausage platter was a bit expensive ($16) given the portion wasn’t too big. Finally the schnitzel, it came with side salad and some potato hash. I could only eat 1 piece (out of the 2) even though I really like schnitzel because they were quite big.

Nestled into an area more well known for Vietnamese and Chinese shops, this jewel is a German restaurant at it’s best. Popular with German speakers as a place to hang out, it is an authentic taste of Germany. A reminder that, like most German restaurants, it is pricy.
