Went there are lunch during the week. We anticipated a line up but we were early enough to get a seat at 11:30am (when they open). Service was slow. One dish came out at a time and by the time the next dish came, the one sitting on the table got cold. Each dish was quite small. We ended up ordering a lot more dishes because of their serving size. The food was really tasty. It’s hard to eat the level of spice I wanted cuz we had friends who could not handle the spice level. It was a compromise but they gave us chillies on the side. I liked all types of curry they offered. We were just all disappointed about the size of the serving. One dish served in a bowl was only enough to give one serving spoon per person. For 4 people (3 guys), we ordered about 6 dishes. We spent about $130 for lunch for 4 people (no alcohol or drinks). I don’t feel like i got the value for the amount spent.
Went there for dinner and found it to be a slightly more than average dining experience. The environment was quaint and clean. However where we sat we had this overwhelming odor of vinegar from the kitchen which was in my sight. I did not appreciate how the girl who was prepping the food had long hair and it wasn’t tied back. Though after I mentioned it they said they wear hats for hair hygien reasons this woman’s hair was not fully contained and free flowing. The service was good; nothing extroadinarily standing out from other restaurants I have eaten out.We ordered the pork ribs appy, the pad thai, clam stir fry with thai basil, eggplant stir fry with thai basil and two jasmine rice bowls. The pprk robs appy was really good. I found I didn’t need to dip them on the sauce as they had enough flavour as is.with regards to the pad thai I’ve had better at other places and found this flavour was far too smokey for my taste. The clam stir fry was not noteworthy either. It was quite bland, although I did appreciate how many clams we received. The eggplant stir fry was thw only dish thay really stood out. It had great flavour leaving me wanting more. Overall it was an average dining experience.
Great food and a clean place in the neighbourhood.. the menu is varied and good is great .. the service is also good with a limited options of local beers . Over all experience is great.
Went there for lunch and spent roughly $40 for 2 ppl, had 2 main dishes and the chicken wings. Liked the pad Thai the most, red curry with rice was a bit too sweet but overall it was a really good experience.
Absolutely loved this place. I ordered the chicken green curry and it was exactly what I was looking for, tasty comfort in a bowl! Definitely recommending this new gem to everyone.
I really wanted to love this place. As somebody who is born and raised in Thailand – I have really high standards for Thai food. When I first heard about Kin Kao – I was very optimistic. A restaurant with a Thai name, as a starter (kin kao means to eat in Thai), and a Thai chef! What could go wrong? Well, let’s just say I walked away feeling very disappointed and probably would not come back again. We ordered the pork collar skewers with sticky rice, the duck red curry (best dish of the night), shrimp pad Thai, northeastern steak salad and sticky rice and mango as dessert. The pork skewers and steak salad were so salty it was not enjoyable. The flavors were there but it was way too salty. The duck curry was fantastic – I would highly recommend this dish to any one. The pad Thai was not good. It did not remind me of home and was pale in comparison to a 30 baht pad Thai readily available everywhere on the streets of Bangkok. The flavors were one dimensional and bland. Finally, the most disappointing dish of the night was the mango and sticky rice. If you ever had this dish in Thailand – do not order it from Kin Kao. The sticky rice tasted like it came from an amateur home cook. The texture was mushy and the rice was salty – not mildly sweet like how it is supposed to be. The coconut cream was good – but not enough to redeem the dish. To top it off – the mangoes were so sour – please do not even serve this dish if you don’t have good mangoes!!! Overall, I was very disappointed. $88 later – I walked away thinking at least I gave this restaurant a chance, but I would not come back. For those of you who worships this place – well, you never had real authentic Thai food in Thailand.
