The sushi here you cannot find everywhere specially for that price. They have these flamed rolls called ABURI which are super delicious as well as the pressed OSHI sushi rolls! Many vegetarian options for me as well. Best quality sushis I’ve experienced in Vancouver with a lovely vibe atmosphere
Truthfully I came down West Broadway to eat lunch at one of my favourite sushi restaurants in the area but it was surprisingly closed at noontime. Seeing as Kitstaya Sushi was nearby and I had yet to get my Japanese food fix, I gave it a shot. The restaurant was quite empty on a Wednesday at lunch time, which was further magnified by the fact that the restaurant is rather large on the inside. The interior of the restaurant is simple in design, albeit out-dated compared to many other sushi places. I ordered the Ebi Sunomono and Chirashi Sushi, which arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The sunomono was a huge disappointment – the vermicelli was cooked too long (no resistance in the bite) and it was oddly more sweet than tangy/sour (perhaps not enough vinegar or too much sugar was added) and thus the dish was not refreshing or appetizing at all. The rice portion of the Chirashi Sushi was severely under-seasoned and most of the slices of fish did not taste very fresh. Perhaps the exception to this was the wild sockeye salmon I got in place of the farmed salmon, but at the hidden cost of $0.70 extra for upgrading 2 pieces! Yikes! Worst part of the experience was that despite the restaurant being nearly empty, the second I finished my food, the waitress slapped the bill down on my table… I definitely would not consider coming back! thevsign.com
My aunt and I were driving by this place for lunch yesterday and we decided to try it on a whim. Little did we know what was in store for us at this quaint little restaurant on Broadway. It turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences that we had ever had.The moment we stepped out of the underground parking lot and onto the stairs leading up to the street level, where the restaurant was situated, our noses were assaulted by the putrid stench of a homeless man’s urine.Upon entering the restaurant, we were neither greeted by the restaurant staff nor were we shown where to sit. The service was so dreadful that we had to physically retrieve the menus ourselves. Bear in mind that there were only two tables that were occupied at the time. As if that was not enough they had the audacity to goof up on my order. I had ordered a teriyaki chicken bento box but what ended up on the table in front of me was a karaage chicken bento box. Our word of advice is to stay away from this restaurant at all costs – cheap sushi is simply not worth it.
Sometimes it’s best to not venture out and try new things and just stick to what you know. I think this is what happened with Kitstaya tonight. We were in Kits and wanted to try a new place out for sushi and stopped at the first one we saw (I know, not a very reasonable thing to do). The place was simple in decoration, nothing too fancy but the real problem was with the sushi. The sushi was lukewarm and tasted rather bland. And nope, not even the rolls could save it. The servers were hardly responsive when we asked to change the portion.
Mrs. This afternoon we took ou son in law and two granddaughters for lunch and were not impressed. The server was rude, two of our five plates were dirty and the food was so so. We won’t go back. The atmosphere was drab. It used to be a vibrant happier spot.
Best Brown Rice Veggie Sushi in Vancouver!. If you’re looking for great Brown Rice Sushi than look no further. In the recent years Kitstaya sushi has changed management and their brown rice sushi has improved drastically. Although the atmosphere or service may not be the greatest, I can always count on Kitstaya Sushi for a cheap, healthy, fast lunch or dinner. I highly recommend their brown rice Vegetable Roll and brown rice Avocado Roll. Both of them are under $3 and are HUGE! If you want to treat yourself, the spicy tuna roll is great as well.
Good Value. Fast, good, well priced sushi. My go-to place for sushi. Very good portions for their price. Not the best sushi around, but the best value. If you want higher end sushi, look elsewhere.
