Rate 3.0Sept 12, 2017During errands and getting hungry, my girlfriend said let us go for pho at this hole in the wall place up the street, 2 minutes later my mind was blown! For 27 years I’ve lived within 5KM of this restaurant, not once did I realized a restaurant was even there. Driving up the street for over 12 years I’ve always thought it was just housing.Arriving at 6:00 PM on a Friday night it was dead, not a single customer. By the time we left, it was packed with the hustle and bustle of a full blown restaurant. I didn’t like the soup base but the toppings were tasty. I ordered a large as I usually do at a Pho restaurant but this time the large actually felt like a large and not just more soup. $9.95 for a large bowl of Pho. What I really like about this place was the hot soup was poured into a hot bowl, thus keeping the soup hot. simple logic that a lot of pho restaurants don’t have.
Pho Nhuan is a really small family run hole in the wall restaurant, it can be easy to miss when you drive by. I would say we’ve had better pho in the city, but prices are so cheap so it’s really hard to complain. Both broth and noodles were solid, and one of the few restaurants that provide chillies. The spring rolls were very good, I think we liked it better than the pho itself. As others have mentioned, service is pretty much non-existent here, but the food and prices are good enough where we would come back.
Just what you’d expect from a small family run pho restaurant. What it may lack in service it makes up for in the food and it doesn’t take long at all for your food to arrive. It’s a tiny restaurant just before Grandview on Rupert with lots of Street parking. It’s not the most well kept but it does deliver flavour and for a decent price too. I had one of their pork and spring roll vermicelli bowls. I had to share half with my partner because it was too much for one person but the spring rolls were crispy and not too oily, with your typical filing and the pork was actually quite flavorful and for someone who doesn’t usually enjoy pork I found it wasn’t overly Salty and goes perfectly with the garlicky chili sauce they give on the side. Would I go again? If I’m looking for a quick cheap bite to eat, yep!
