This is a cute cafe/bakery located on Powell, near the end of Victoria Drive. As indicated by the name, the place specializes in pies. They serve both whole versions, as well as single slices, the flavours of which rotate daily. During my visit, I sampled their Salted Honey, Earl Grey Custard, and Pie Gem (Sour Cherry). While I wasnt the biggest fan of their crust – I found it to be a bit too thick and hard for my taste – the fillings were delicious. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but I think they are worth it due to the quality of their ingredients. Overall, I quite like this place, and I think that its definitely worth paying a trip to if you like pies.Pie Gem ($4):3/5This is basically a small tart and comes in a rotating variety of flavours; the one I got during my visit was sour cherry. The pie crust was quite crispy and relatively flaky, albeit not very flavourful (I would have preferred a bit of salt). The filling was quite thick, and contained large pieces of cherries, but I unfortunately found it to be a bit bland and lacking in sweetness or tartness. Earl Grey Custard Pie Slice ($7):4/5The filling was thick and creamy, with a fragrant but not overpowering flavour of Earl grey. It was bruleed at the top and contained small pieces of sugar, which lent a nice bit of crunch and sweetness. I did find the crust around the edges to be a bit too thick and tough.Salted Honey Pie Slice ($7):4/5Again, I was not the biggest fan of the crust, which I found to be too thick, even though here it was a bit more browned and flakier. The filling had a wonderful fragrance of honey. It was quite sweet, and paired well with the salt sprinkled on top.Summary:Food: 3.5/5Price: 3.5/5Service: N/AOverall: 3.5/5Recommendations: Earl Grey Custard Pie Slice, Salted Honey Pie Slice
My husband and I eat a lot of pie. We each ordered a slice of the chocolate pecan with ganache and ate it in the park across the street. We agreed that it was hands down the best pie we’ve ever had. I feel guilty saying that, like I’m cheating on all my other favourite pies… But it has to be said. Best. Pie. Ever. The crust is perfection. Kind of reminded us of a short bread cookie. The filling was had a caramel undertone to it. And the ganache really put it over the edge. Needless to say, we will be back.
My girlfriend and I wanted to explore Chinatown more. We saw a cute little pie shop out front. It’s small and has a rustic feel. There is a pie display out front and a couple seats inside and outside. A lady busy prepping her pies greets us. It was our first time here. We weren’t too sure on which pie to try. She mentioned a few until my girlfriend’s eyes glistened at the lemon chess. Ahh… The lemon chess, yes that one looked lovely to me too. And it was the last slice, it’s gotta be good since it’s the last slice. We got one to go. We wanted to save it for later after our dinner at the ramen butcher. Here we go, first bite! You can taste the tartness.. Lemon comes though. Texture is nice, very comforting. It’s delicious. Was there a wow factor? It’s almost there, just shy of it by a tad. I’m reminded of the pie shop out in west van on marine. Since I grew up on the northshore that location has been my favorite to get fresh pies. This location I would say is good, nothing bad at all, just good if you ask me. They do catering. Would I recommend this place? Yes.As for prices they are on the high side.
Just walked into this place to check out their pies, and the girl making pies looked up, clearly saw me (it’s a tiny tiny store), I said hi, and she said nothing and went back to making her pies. So I walked out. So rude! Terrible customer service – definitely not going here again. Will check out Lime and Moon Pie Company in Yaletown instead.
I regret not buying a full salted honey pie from this place. Selling only a small selection of pies until they run out, the pie shoppe really excels in using quality ingredients and allowing the flavours speak for themselves. Can’t wait to come back!!! instagram.com
Such delicious pies!! We had a peach and blueberry & peach pie, the crust was perfect and the lattes were delicious. The place has limited indoor seating but they have a few tables outside, in the shade!
I had the lemon pie and the filling was sooo soft and just melts in your mouth! The vanilla ice cream on top made it perfect! The crust was a bit more flakey then i expected but it didn’t change my mind about the pie at all. Would have given 4 but the customer service wasn’t that great..which was kind of disappointing compared to the greatness of the pie
