Best wings in Victoria, they always come out just as we ask for. Extra crisp, and Ben in the sports bar is amazing, we go at least once a week.…

Sat in the pub side. It smelled like old, rank, stale urine, mildew and smoke (still left in the upholstery from over a decade ago). My steak knife had food crusted to both sides, and the fork was murky looking as well. The burger my husband had was very underwhelming considering it was a feature, and my featured pickle-fries were so thin that it was mostly batter and the pickle could barely be tasted. The batter on the onion rings and pickle-fries tasted of old fryer oil. The Yorkshire sliders were o-k, but the gravy tasted of thickened cornstarch to me, and the beef just didn’t seem house made or sliced. The male who was serving when we arrived before 5, was gruff and also argumentative with another table near us. The female server who took over our table was much nicer.
I came here on a Saturday at around 2:30 pm, the restaurant was fairly quiet. It’s a gorgeous place to eat, nice area, outdoor patio seating and a very roomy inside. My food was great too, I also had one of their house made beers which was delicious. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I’m not shy about giving bad reviews but it’s extremely rare that i don’t tip, and I did not hesitate in not tipping today. The service was incredibly slow, when my food arrived the server just put it on the table and left, did not ask if I could use anything else. I had no mustard or ketchup and was waiting for another 20 mins maybe to get her attention. She seemed really inconvenienced by my request for mustard or ketchup. I was also never given water. After I finished my meal I waited a long time for my bill, and ended up just going up to the bar and getting it myself. Unacceptable service, especially when the restaurant was not busy.
Nope, I don’t care if you brew your own(all about the same) beer… if you don’t serve Guinness or at least a credible Irish Stout then you dont have a Pub. Combine that with the triangle shaped, oiliest pieces of cod I have ever had and you might wonder what has happened to this previously decent Pub…
Calamari. Amazingly tender, perf coyly cooked, savoury – the best I’ve had anywhere, and I’m serious about seafood!08 May, 2015Gorgonzola-Pear Pizza. Terrific, thin crust, loads of flavour, excellent value.
Been here a few times before, albeit in the restaurant, not the lounge and enjoyed our meals most of those times. This time we ate in the pub. I orderered the New York steak while my wife ordered the salmon. The food took a long time to arrive. The steaks have always been good. This time I was very disappointed. It appeared to look dry and grey (never a good look for a steak). Unfortunately it tasted like it looked. The steak was ordered medium, but was cooked almost well done. It was dry and tasteless. Blah. It lacked flavour. Perhaps the meals sat under the heat lamps too long, because the tell tale sign was the side dishes (mashed potatoes and shredded squash) had a crisp shell around. The meal was NOT WORTH, the $24.95 price I was charged. I’ve had steak sandwiches in shady diners that had more flavour and were cooked perfectly, for half the price. My wife’s salmon and sides were both a little dry and ok at best. Once again, the meals were sitting under the heat lamps too long. They need to ease up on the starchy sides that accompany the meals. Enough of the big, chunky slice of sweet potatoe that garnishes every meal. The service was SLOW at best. Servers there really need to WRITE DOWN the orders, instead of trying to impress their customers by showing that they can remember 3 different tables orders. THEY ALWAYS GET SOME THINGS WRONG. It’s too bad that our food this time was just ok and overpriced. The place is very quaint and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The whole building, pub and dining room, have a great and cozy atmosphere. Once the food and service gets more consistent, this place will be a total gem
Over priced?. My mother and I go to the 4 mile when I’m in town. We always share the 2 piece fish and chips. We didn’t look at the menu as we usually get this meal. It was very good as usual. We paid for our meal and left. Afterward I started thinking that the price for the fish and chips was $22.00. I had a beverage which brought it up to $26.00. I haven’t been in there since, but would like to know is this an average price for fish and chips? Or has the 4 mile put their price up since we were there last. Will definitely look at the menu before ordering even if we do know what we want.
Langford – World Traveller. Been to many places, ate many different kinds of food over the years, have developed tastes for certain restaurants, each have their different flair and different flavor. Yes, the 4 Mile House, as I read some of the critics, can have off days, just as any restaurant can have. I’ve been going there for ten years, know many of the waitresses by name, have watched the changes, and my oh my there isn’t a more beautiful place to go or to take people to at Christmas Time. When you sit in a restaurant, yes you are paying for the food, but as far as prices go you are also paying for everything that is around the restaurant including the most beautiful gardens, all things cost money. The average drive through any fast food restaurant is $10.00 a head and you get to eat out of a paper bag, and have no idea of the standards of cleanliness. The Four Mile is always welcoming, always accommodating, and over the years, yes I’ve had an experience with truly bad service, and I’ve had at times food issues; but talking to the waitress always resolves it. I’ve had food taken back and re – prepared. It is the one restaurant you can go to and if you want or require different food items; the chef is very accommodating It can get hectic as their is the restaurant side and the bar side and the girls work both, so with all things when I look at ten years of going and perhaps 4 times of not being so thrilled, and realize all but one time were resolved. The one time it wasn’t was we sat down and for some reason the staff disappeared. We waited 1/2 and hour, and all I could think of was there was an emergency somewhere; so I didn’t write the restaurant off. I find one visit and a bad review truly unfair, everyone has a day that goes bad sometime, and so do restaurants. I prefer to think of all of the pleasant conversations we have had over the years with Sue, how they know exactly how I want my food prepared, and if it’s a staff change, and the staff doesn’t know me, I just make it clear what I am wanting and why. So with this in mind let’s give a little latitude to some of these places we tend to write off due to one bad experience, start looking collectively at all of the experiences over a period of time and then make a fair judgement. Thanks, it’s also a real courtesy to personally thank people for good service, often we don’t realize it we may have just had a girl run her feet off for a party of twenty, gave them great service and they leave without saying thank you or leaving a tip..That can be disheartening. It’s also when you order meat, ie the prime rib, just look in the grocery store, it’s hard to find prime rib without a huge layer of fat on it, a good reason not to order it, not a good reason to blame the restaurant. It usually is served with the fat layer, and due to the juices is served over the vegetables and potatoes, so the juice runs into them. All have a great day now.
