came here during a dinner, have a reservation, and it was quite packed, but luckily the reservation saves me time for waiting. kind of anticipating this place since of the good reviews and the entitlement of the winner of masterchef canada, so ordered a few things, ordered steak, the deepfried chicken, and the mac and cheese bar. so then here goes what i remember, the deepfried chicken isn’t really impressive, the flavouring was okay, the juiciness and tenderness is what wins in this dish, but not much other than that. then the steak was good, and the mac and cheese bar if i’m not mistaken that’s interesting but it’s all curiousity, taste wise it was okay. overall for the food that we ate, i think we paid more on the ambiance, but taste wise, i think it was not really worth it. the sides were done well, props to that I enjoyed it. mangkr.wordpress.com
We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner here at S&L. This place was very busy a bit loud and full of staff. The staff many of whom were being trained were very friendly and helpful. They have a very wide drink menu and although I can not remember the name of the drink I had it was tasty with egg white foam on top. We started our meal by sharing the buffalo fried cauliflower with blue cheese sauce. This was one of our favourite parts of the meal. For the main meal Rainbowcrab had the cheese burger with half salad and half fries. She said based on her first bite the burger was excellent. However she soon discovered that somehow the beef had been over salted. I took a bite and agreed it was very very salty. Being way to polite we did not say anything, which we now regret. She did enjoy both the salad and the fries. I went all out and had the Waygu rib eye with bacon bourbon corn and onion strings. The steak was very flavourful and tasty. The corn had great flavour but was a bit sweet for me. I loved the onion strings. For desert Rainbowcrab had the bourbon creme brulee. She said it was perfect. I had the hot baked cookie with ice cream. Thus was fabulous. Although not a perfect meal we do look forward to go back to try some more items on the menu. It is pretty dark in the restaurant so it is hard to take good photos.
I was extremely excited for a fine dining restaurant to come to Langley but after my first experience here I will never go back. I dont mind paying more for good quality food, but all I got was a high price with low grade food. Not only that, I suffer from all sorts of allergies and the menu does not include all the ingredients that come with the food. For example I ordered maple syrup bacon brussel sprouts, and they were swimming in syrup. I said to the waitress is this how they normally come? She said yes. They were soggy and we all know a little maple syrup goes a long way. I also ordered Parmesan asparagus and that’s what the description on the menu said. When the asparagus came it also was swimming in some flour based sauce. I went back and checked the menu and none of these ingredients were on the menu. I do not eat flour and I would have not ordered this had it said this on the menu. Steak was okay, not top quality how the restaurant says it is. All in all I would never go back to this restaurant for the food, I would however go back for a few drinks. The decor is amazing in there and a very cool concept. Decor I give a 10, food I give a 1. Service is a 5. Seeing as how the waitress could see we were not impressed with the food that we barely touched, she did nothing to make sure we left as happy customers. Instead we left with a bad taste in our mouths and a big bill to pay.
Came here for my sister’s birthday and they do not have any high chairs or booster seats for my niece. Weird for any restaurant. Anyhow the appies were okay. We got calamari, dozen Miyagi oysters, chicken wings and fried cauliflower (which came with a blue cheesy sauce underneath). The mains were the best – the prime rib was killer (as you can see in my pictures) which comes with 1 or 2 sides. Brussel sprouts were drenched in a sweet maple sauce which was not my fav but the bacon corn side mix was pretty good. The Caesar salad we ordered to start (sorry forgot to snap a picture) were whole leaves but really nicely dressed – surprisingly quite good! I love how they have a rolley cart where a bartender comes to your table to make any drink you like (just like black and blue) the drunk in me was impressed lol. Will definitely come back (esp since my sister lives 5 mins away)
I reserved a table online a week ago. The restaurant would reply and confirm on the reservation within 48 hours. I highly recommend that reservation is very important. This restaurant is considered as high end in Langley or Fraser Valley. Many customers from Langley or Fraser Valley would come here for dinner or drinks in the evening. This is like a Vancouver type of high end restaurant, but it is located in Langley. This restaurant is better than any other western ones (e.g. Browns Restaurant, the Keg and Cactus Club) in Fraser Valley. We got a table right away since we had reserved a table online. Our server provided great customer service. She was very friendly and upbeat. She took our orders and took care of everything professionally. Although we finished the meals and paid already, she did not rush us to leave. We ordered a dish of lobster pasta and a wagyu burger with fries as well as a couple of drinks. The food was fantastic!! The pasta had a lot of small pieces of lobster. Wagyu burger was of course better than the regular burger out there. We also ordered a chocolate sphere with vanilla ice-cream, brownie and strawberries inside as our dessert. This dessert was very cool that the chocolate was like a ball. Once the server pulled some warm white chocolate sauce on top of the chocolate sphere, the chocolate was melting right away. The only thing I did not like about the chocolate sphere was the brownie. This dish of dessert looked big, but it was very tiny. When I compared to the chefs homemade warm brownie (vanilla ice cream, salted walnuts, hand cut milk chocolate, caramel sauce) at Browns Restaurant, this chocolate sphere was not good. However, I had a great experience at this restaurant located in Langley tonight. I cannot find any restaurants that can beat this one in Fraser Valley yet.
There isn’t much out in Langley, so finally a decent and nice restaurant has opened up!We started off with oysters and calamari – they were both delicious. For our entrees, I had a 10 oz Prime Rib and my boyfriend had the New York Striploin. We both ordered them Medium Rare; however, they both came out Medium. A bummer that we had to send them back and wait longer… but the restaurant did acknowledge it and brought us correctly cooked steaks, and they turned out perfect! They even comped both our steaks as well, which wasn’t expected. The corn that came on the side of the steaks was very yummy. We also ordered a side of the Mac and Cheese stick. As it was a side, we weren’t expecting it to be so large! Seemed more like an appetizer-sized side!Their wine list is also pretty decent. Good selection and not too pricey.I would come back again. Nice place for a birthday or group dinner!
My husband and I went there with our (adult) daughter for an early dinner on a Saturday to beat the dinner crowd. We were seated right away.GOOD DISHESScallops (appetizer) For 19.99 we got 5 pan seared scallops on a bed of butternut squash puree which was garnished with a few sprinkles of bacon. The scallops were done just right and were tender and the butternut squash puree added a touch of sweetness and complimented the dish.Gnudi: This was one of the appetizers our daughter had as part of her dinner. She got about half a dozen pieces of gnudi sprinked on top of a sauce brown butter/mushroom sauce with a bit of balsamic reduction. She said it was tender and she liked the flavours. NOT SO MEMORABLE DISHESDeep Fried Mac and Cheese sticks: My daughter and I shared this appetizer. Four pieces came with a tomato based sauce on the side. My daughter and I both found the Mac and Cheese sticks to be flavourless. They were not cheesy enough and under seasoned. The sauce improved the taste somewhat, but they were not worth the $11 charged. And where was the White truffle oil the menu mentioned? If they did use any, there was probably such a small amount used that it didn’t make any difference to the blandness of the dish. Master Chicken: My husband had to try this dish as this is supposed to be the dish that won the chef his Masterchef Canada title. He got two pieces of chicken: a piece of white and a piece of dark which were coated in batter and fried. He said that the dark meat was moist but the light meat was a tad on the dry side. The chicken was just average. All you could taste was the salt. My husband said that the chicken was the right saltiness for him, but I tried a small piece and found it on the verge of being too salty for me. The mashed potatoes that came with it was just average. Nothing special. The only good thing on the plate was bourbon bacon corn. Seafood pasta: This was the dish I had. It was supposed to be noodles with a rose sauce lobster and heirloom tomatoes. The noodles were overcooked so the pasta, with the sauce mixed in, was sticky. I could only find a few small pieces of lobster meat, and one small cherry tomato cut in half on top. The sauce tasted just like any rose sauce you get at the supermarket – just okay. No added herbs. The quality of the food here is inconsistent and the service okay. Server was efficient but didn’t seem as friendly as those at some other restaurants. Hubby and daughter want to go back another time to try out other dishes. Just have to stay away from the Master Chicken, Mac and Cheese and the seafood pasta.
