First off, I’ll admit that it turns out that I am not a huge fan of oysters. That being said, I’ll try to judge this place not based on the fact that I’m not a fan, because I came here with my sister who is a HUGE fan of oysters and says this place has got some good ones. We ordered the pound of oysters and they give you a variety (apparently there are varieties of oysters, and also apparently they taste different..) however the plating was beautiful and they had great flavour. Drawbacks for me were the fact that I ordered the popcorn as an appetizer and our waitress completely forgot, even though we were basically the only people in the restaurant at the time. Also the location is weird as Fat Cow is in a strip mall, so the view from the window isn’t that great either. That being said, they’ve done well with what they have and to that I give them creds. I’m not sure if I would come back anytime soon, and if I did, I wouldn’t order the oysters, but if you’ve got a taste for the sea, I would highly recommend it.

Substandard meal and substandard service that started off with a lost reservation. The menu is overpriced for what is offered. One of us ordered the rib eye and for $29, one would expect is cooked to specifications however we clearly set our expectations too high. It has the appearance of being tenderized which is asinine because a rib eye is tender and nicely marbled so certainly doesn’t need tenderizing. The crab cake burgers arrived on stale buns, far too large for the tiny crab cakes inside. Lobster mac and cheese was served in a small bucket and was sized not for sharing, as the menu stated, but more for one person willing to hunt for those elusive pieces of lobster. No fresh sheet. No dessert menu. Not a difficult thing to provide when your drink menu is photocopied sheets on a clip board. We are more than familiar with restaurants such as this and were sadly disappointed with the entire experience. Langley is in desperate need of restaurants that aren’t of the chain variety and but we will continue to visit Chewie’s and Rodney’s in Vancouver until something better than this comes along.

If you go in knowing that seafood is pricey and that service isn’t going to be a race to the bill, then this place is fantastic. Ambiance is rustic but comfortable, sufficient tables inside, dimly (but not darkly) lit, live music (she was very talented and played a great variety of tunes), multiple attentive servers coming around constantly filling glasses and taking empty plates. The food: we shared a tie of oysters, prawns, mussels, and clams. It was well explained, tasted fresh and flavourful, and came very quickly considering how busy they were (they had one large birthday party and another large table). We heard of slow service so we decided to put that order in immediately and ordered our appetizers and mains soon afterward. I had the 1lb of mussel steamers with the garlic and leek sauce – this was a wonderful portion. Well seasoned, the mussels were delicate, tender, bursting with flavour. We shared the delicious cornbread (I would say $5 for 2 pieces is a bit much), and apparently my friends’ duck poutine, cioppino, chicken and waffles (a half chicken!!) were all wonderful.YES, it is expensive. YES, this place seems kind of out of place in Langley. It is reminiscent of Yaletown/Downtown Van places. Prices reflect the same. I’d love to come back on a night that they have cheaper oysters so I can really indulge! Will return to try more things off the menu.
