Too bad. I feel the beach needs a good place to go but once again fails. I was walking out the other night and a girl was throwing up over the patio railing. No wonder they lost their liquor license. I did have a good chowder here and they have a good patio but service is the worst Ive ever had. Gave it about 5 tries and will never be back.
Good food&drinks….. Bad management. I never write reviews or make complaints online. This is my first time doing so. It is due to the shocking attitude and behaviour of one of the waitresses and especially the manager at The Hemmingway, White Rock.My husband had arranged a birthday celebration there for my 36th; we were there at 7pm on Saturday 13th September 2014. Several couples who are friends and relatives had driven in from Vancouver and Abbotsford to join us.We had selected 3 tables at the back against the wall, near the DJ booth. We did this as we knew we were going to be a larger group. Our waitress helped us put the tables together and took our orders for appetizers and drinks.Over the course of an hour the rest of our group had arrived, about 16 in all. We were having a great time chatting and catching up and celebrating my birthday. As we had planned to just have appetisers and we were in a pub environment, some of us were standing near our table in order to talk to others who were sitting. We noticed that even though our tables were to the side at the back, away from the main area and middle of the pub, one particular waitress kept coming through us with plate loads of food and saying excuse me excuse me. There were plenty of other aisles she could use to serve other tables but she kept on coming through every few minutes. She never politely asked that we keep it clear as she wanted to go through it constantly. She was rude and abrupt; I eventually asked her why she couldnt go another way as there was plenty of space through other aisles. She seemed annoyed and made us feel uncomfortable for socialising within our group around our tables. It made no sense to us at all what she was doing.Soon after a short man, calling himself the manager, arrived at our tables with 4 bouncers. His first words were you guys are out.I was absolutely shocked! I couldnt believe it!My response was based on what, what did we doHe said for standing in the aisle!!! I told him that we are here for my birthday and we are in a pub, we were not being any kind of nuisance or disturbing anyone. We were just talking and having a good time.He did not care about anything I said. He did not care about customer service and being reasonable. I asked him for his name or his card, he said he didnt have a card and he would not give me his name. He told me took look it up on the internet. If he thought what he was doing was right and correct, he should have had no problem giving his name to me. I said I would be filing a complaint about how we were being treated over something so ridiculas.I had tried to reason with him. He didnt listen respectfully or give any consideration to us as customers. He had no care about what we thought and he clearly didnt care if we would ever come back to this establishment. We had spent over $300 there over the couple of hours. My husband and I are residents of White Rock. All of us are in our late 30s and early 40s. We all have young children. I even said that he was deliberately ruining my birthday. He then swore at me saying get your ass out of here you f***ing b****!! I have never encountered such a rude and arrogant person. No one in our group could believe that he could really be the manager; he did not act in any way like a professional. Our group included business people, a bank manager, a firefighter, a corrections officer, a CBSA agent and a Child Protection services officer. We had 4 designated drivers who werent drinking and a pregnant woman with us too. This situation was completely unnecessary and was handled inappropriately by the manager. We are very upset as this is our local pub and we do come there occasionally. Everyone in our group is shocked and highly embarrassed that this could happen to us mature people who were not doing anything wrong, just having a good time amongst our family and friends. There was no valid reason to treat us this way. It seemed like the one particular waitress who was not our server had an attitude towards us and the manager did not resolve it in a fair and professional manner.
Great food and fabulous service! We went to check out the live music Saturday night and had a great time! We will be back!
Good and Clean. I stopped by for lunch and sat the bar.Not knowing what to get, I tried the Street Tacos.Couldn’t decide which meat, so I got all of them.Steak was good, not fatty. Fish was tasty. The Chicken was a culinary treat. Also while I wait for the my food, I looked around, etc. I noticed that the bartender was cleaning the glasses correctly, etc. I don’t see that a lot. Usually it’s in one since and rinsed in another, done..
WORST SERVICE EVER! I’ve tried to give this place a chance many times, but every time I go there busy or not the service is very slow… I waited 30 minutes for a drink last time I was in there, after waiting almost 30 for my server to even acknowledge we were sitting there, it wasn’t busy at all… As I was waiting for my drink I could see her in the back area where I think they keep their glassware making out with a bartender (who I found out later was a manager???) she finally dropped my drink off, as my friend was trying to order one she walked away. You can ask most the locals, unless you go to the bar good luck getting any service and when you try to talk to management he is incredibly rude! Honesty if it wasn’t for their location they wouldn’t have any business at all!
Fun location with an amazing view. The food and drinks were good, the menu is the same as all the other public houses. The service was slow, but it was a Saturday night and it was busy. The biggest negative about The Hemmingway is the DJ, he is the woooorst! He played just garbage music, and I requested a song and he never heard of the artist… heres a tip kids, if you want to be a DJ you need to know music!! he said he would download it and play it for me, he never did. So if you like top 10 music from 2001-2005 this place is for you.
Great Experience. This place has the best patio on the strip, delicious food and huge craft beer selection. I will defiantly be back for there $4 breakfast on the weekends!
