There is freshly cut Toro that is fatty and melts in your mouth, good Toro that’s been cut that day, tasteless Toro at about the beginning of day two, and Toro that tastes like old socks by the end of day two. Then there is the dear God spit it out Toro that was in the negitoro roll I had at Akira this evening… Even the dynamite roll and shaved carrots under the tuna tataki had a vague fishiness to them. The miso soup was bland and a hint sweet which was so sad on top of everything else, and the gyoza tasted like the kind you’d buy out of a bag at Costco. The only nice thing I can say is that the servers were lovely and should work someplace better 🙁
Been there a few times. I have only tried their cooked items and they are okay. Nothing special: tamago sushi was sweet, Inari sushi was normal and the California rolls was ok. For a quick lunch, I will visit again.
We had lunch here and my husband got food poisoning. I don’t eat sushi so I’m fine. I did order miso soup and did not get if, but was charged for it. Glad we caught that, but not happy at all about the food poisoning. It ruined our trip.
Very fresh salmon sashimi and a good sized Bento for dinner. Pretty good overall! I like that they do dine in or take out. Lots of menu items to try.
Decent sushi. I often get take-out from this place – decent sushi for the area – stay away from Tanpopo….My only complaint is that when you pay with credit/debit the machine demands a tip – why on earth you think I’m going to tip when ordering take-out I can’t understand. There is no option to ignore it, so I tip 1 cent. It’s tacky. Period.
Our favorite sushi place. Love everything there. It reminds us of our favorite place back in Toronto. Cheap and good.
Always Great. We are addicted to this place. We have tried a lot of Sushi restaurants in Vancouver, and this spot is our favorite by far. The food is always fresh, and the store is always clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Recommend to have your sushi with the Black Rice instead of the traditional White Rice. The other thing we like about Akira is the $$$$. Good bang for your buck.
